Tottenham Hotspur has had its eyes on AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié for a while, and it seems they’re looking to secure his services for next season. With the 25-year-old’s contract expiring in June, they can talk with him over a pre-contract.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke provided the latest talks that Spurs are having with Kessié over a pre-contract. He adds that Antonio Conte’s side has discussed with the Ivory Coast international.
“There have been talks with Kessie and his representatives over a pre-contract agreement,” O’Rourke told GiveMeSport.
Kessié is currently participating in the African Cup of Nations, so his focus is on helping his country win the competition. Nonetheless, the tournament is over; he’s shifting his focus to his future which doesn’t seem to be with the Serie A club.
Adding the midfielder will begin the process of Spurs rebuilding their midfield and adding a player that can serve as the spine to the position. Over the summer, they did add Pape Matar Sarr, but having a player of Kessié’s level on a free transfer would be significant for the club.
I assume we are still, at least nominally, aiming to win the FA Cup and get into the top four. Our midfield is currently dysfunctional and clearly needs upgrading now, not later. If this bloke is worth having, we should be getting him in now and not waiting for a freebie in the summer.
