Jose Mourinho fined and handed European ban

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham’s 1-0 loss against Royal Antwerp in the Europa League has gone from bad to worse after Jose Mourinho has been banned for delaying the kickoff of the game.

A much-changed Spurs team was beaten by the Belgian side in their second Europa League group game of the season.

It was a game that frustrated Mourinho from the outset, and the Portuguese manager was forced to make four changes at half time after his team had gone behind.

The changes didn’t change the outcome of the game as the Belgians held on to their narrow lead until the end of the game.

UEFA has now handed Mourinho a suspended one-match ban after it was decided that he caused the late kickoff of the game in Belgium.

UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body (CEDB) fined Tottenham €25,000 for the late kickoff and an additional €3,000 for a breach of UEFA’s equipment regulations.

Part of CEDB statement as quoted by Mirror Football reads that the decision was “deferred for a probationary period of one year, starting from the date of the present decision”.

It also added that the north London side should “ensure their head coach is personally informed of this decision”.
