Former Man Utd forward Dion Dublin has hailed Tottenham’s capture of Joe Hart as a “brilliant” piece of business.
Spurs have confirmed the signing of the former England number one on a free transfer earlier today.
The Lilywhites have been looking for a new goalie after they released Michel Vorm from his current deal.
Hugo Lloris remains the undisputed number one and Hart will have to battle it out with Paulo Gazzaniga for the number two spot.
Hart also meets the home grown quota, which is something that Tottenham are desperate to address before the transfer window closes.
The former England number one has struggled since he was ousted from the Manchester City first team by Pep Guardiola and he was never good enough to become the first choice at Burnley where he was released this summer, however, Dublin believes that he is a good goalkeeper and that he will feel that he has the chance to rival Lloris for the number one jersey.
He told BBC Radio Five Live’s Monday Night Club:
“Joe is so confident in his own ability that he will be thinking ‘I’m happy to play number two at somewhere like Spurs, knowing that if I get my chance I can hold down the number one journey’.
“I think it’s a brilliant signing from Spurs, it’s very clever. I think for Spurs that is good business, knowing that you have Hart on the bench, that is a good second keeper.”
In the Hart interview, he notably made the point about being in Europe in midweek, which gave me the impression he would be playing in those games.
Put me down as 4th I’ll take the other half, probably wouldn’t get the gig being Kiwi though🙄
I like Mr Dublin too Sid. However he is trying to dress it up and it looks like someone in a banana costume…
Just like Jose, it’s been a few years since he’s been at the top of his game. Another ting they have in common is that both were unemployed when Daniel invited them in for a chat…
They said the same thing when he signed for Burnley and the Spammer too… 😂
Joe. Show’em your medals
I drifted off and thought we had signed Mike Maignan.
It is Joe “the cat” Hart who signed?
Is he English ok there he is better than vorm. Still rubbish but one more homegrown
I’m English, put me down as the 3rd choice, I’ll take half Joes salary
I love the fact that he just completely ignored the fact that we already have a 2nd keeper in Gazzaniga and I can’t see Hart getting above him based on his form over the last few years.
I do like Dion Dublin, he comes across as an avuncular, affable chap with never a bad word to say about anyone.
However, Hart is crap, no-one can dress that up
