“It’s a real statement of intent from the club” Robinson on new Tottenham signing

Paul Robinson has hailed Tottenham for their transfer business in the last transfer window.

Despite their finances being hurt by the coronavirus pandemic, Spurs went into the last transfer window with a strong will to strengthen their team, and they did.

The club completed deals for the likes of Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Gareth Bale.

These players have been in top form, and they are one of the reasons why the club is top of the Premier League at the moment.

They are still in at least four competitions and have reached the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup.

Robinson was the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for a long time and he was speaking about his former team recently.

He says that bringing back Bale was a real statement of intent from the Lilywhites and he also hailed the impact that Hojbjerg has made at the club, choosing him as their best player so far.

“It was an incredible signing to bring Gareth Bale back for the season,” he said, speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes at its launch of the 5-A-Side Bet on Tottenham v Arsenal as quoted by Football London.

“[It’s] a real statement of intent from the club. Everybody said it would be great to get him back and there was a lot of talk, but to actually push the deal through for a player of that quality was a real statement for me. It shows they have real ambition to challenge for the title.

“Bringing in Carlos Vinicius, too, and Pierre-Emile Hojberg who I think has been their best player this season. He sits in that midfield and is very understated, very underrated, putting passes together and pulling the strings.

“I was really impressed with the way they strengthened their defence in the summer. I thought they needed a centre-half and the signing of Joe Rodon is proving to have been absolutely essential now because of the injury to Toby Alderweireld.”

Whoever Bruce Grove is pays little attention to much apart from the headline, the content is usually pretty flakey! 😂

Poch wasn’t given a choice of anything. He’s already said that a deal like the Bale one just wouldn’t have been impossible while the stadium was being built.

I mean it is what it is – the signing of Bale is the signing of Bale, there’s no mystery to it.

The budget is there and Jose said he’ll fit his targets to it – can’t afford to get a player on a long term? A top quality loan player it is then. Can’t get your top choice? In a squad of 30 players your second choice will still probably improve it.

One thing, unlike Poch, he’ll always want and demand that churn of players.

A ‘statement of intent’ or just smoke and mirrors from Levy, as usual?
