Tottenham Hotspur went into this past summer intending to revamp their backline. Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici first brought in Cristian Romero from Atalanta BC to anchor the defense.
However, in the final hours of the summer transfer window, Paratici made a last-minute move to land Emerson Royal from FC Barcelona to further change the look of the backline.
The Premier League side paid £26-million to secure the right-back, leading the English club to part ways with Serge Aurier. Tottenham is betting on Emerson to commend the position for the new few years.
In an interview with DAZN, the Brazil international spoke about joining the north London-based club and what about the project appealed to him, considering that he was presented as a Barcelona player this summer.
“Being happy in a club, for me, is the key. If you are happy and well, things go smoothly,” Emerson said. “The project is to be in a very competitive league, in a club that is going to fight for big things. For me, it is an incredible project.”
“When I spoke with my family, they supported me 100%. They told me ‘let’s go there, we will be happy there.'”
When I leave Barcelona, and I see that I am going to come to a very competitive league and to a club like Tottenham, which is going to help me a lot, in every way … it’s an incredible project. When I spoke with my family, they supported me 100%. They told me, ‘let’s go there; we’ll be happy there.'”
In another interview, Emerson discussed the transition from La Liga to the Premier League and what adjustments he has to make to succeed in the best league.
Exactly. I’m not sure if ‘The Don’ knows anything about the last 22 years, or even gives a toss…
Very exciting, this “project”!
We’ve been in a “project” for over 20 years now and we’ve won one league cup!
He will work it out soon enough.
Kool aid on tap at the debt arena.
A 22 year project that has this far yielded only one trophy, the most minor one you can win in English football…
I however have complete faith in ‘the project’ and will try and project positive energy onto it (as Don Paratici told me to) by buying lots of overpriced merch etc. 😆
Another one reading off the ENIC press release, a ‘project’ that wins nothing on the football pitch. Incredible indeed…
Another sucker falling for the old “its a project” line from our resident Snake Oil salesman.
