“Imagine my shock” “Stop cutting corners” So Many Fans React Badly To A Likely Transfer Twist

By The Boy -

The Mail Online has run with the suggestion that despite Tottenham having targeted the rather excellent Nick Pope, that a cheaper option might be required should Burnley are to ask a reported £30million.

Sami Mokbel believes that Wolfsberg’s Koen Casteels and Lille’s Mike Maignan could be alternative picks – should Hugo Lloris’ first choice replacement be deemed too expensive.

The fan reaction comments strike me as fair, but for me, this is precisely what supporters can expect until the debt is down, and even then, I have my doubts about a number of the ENIC business model in a post-COVID-19 world.

I also remain bewildered why in a ‘money’s no object’ project about which the club never stopped fine-tuning detail to produce world-class facilities, was the place under-insured. Whilst I appreciate that very few other venue operators had SARS-related coverage, it does exist, and I find it improbable to believe that a business with a long-term sponsor that is a global insurance provider, wasn’t offered a package including it. THFC claims to be a blue-chip operation, but Wimbledon proved that they actually are.

Nah, if Pope is genuinely in the shop window at £30m there’ll be a scramble on that will see Dear Mr Levy decline to bid. We all know by now that he only likes to buy players nobody else is interested in.

Cut a few corners like that and you’re just making sure we’ll replace the current wasters (if anyone wants them) with yet more wasters who will win nothing, costing us quite a lot of money in the process.

Pope is English, he’s pretty good and used to the league. At 28, we could get four, five, maybe six good seasons out of him.

OR we could get a guy from Wolfsburg or Ligue 1 at a lower price. Not that Maignan is necessarily a bad keeper, but this is exactly the type of thinking that sabotages the squad in the long run.

Buying quality players galvanizes the team. Buying second-rate knockoffs tells the squad that the plan was never about winning and achieving anything tangible. Pretending to strengthen makes the squad only pretend to compete.

Imagine Pool telling Klopp “Allison? Bit pricey, that one…here’s a 20-year old from a lower mid table Bundesliga team instead.”

Beer poured into pint glasses from the bottom up price is going up though I bet. In ENIC land ‘on the pitch’ and ‘off the pitch’ are different universes.

Highly regarded throughout the world of football, capped in excess of 100 times for N Ireland, receiving a rare standing ovation from the Kop, in my eyes the legendary gentle giant revered Big Pat Jennings is and will always be the greatest Spurs keeper ever!!

This is exactly why we’ll win nothing under Levy, he’s forever trying to cut corners instead of buying young quality players, they would save him a fortune in the long run. We need Lewis, Levy and ENIC OUT !!!!
