‘I’ll be very surprised’ – BT Sport pundit gives verdict on the future of Antonio Conte at Spurs

By Eddie Razo -

This week, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte hinted that he could be departing following the loss to Burnley. However, the Italian manager walked backed his comments, and the north London club came away with an impressive win against Leeds United.

Despite Conte committing himself to the project, BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand believes that the Italian manager will not be there past this summer.

The former Manchester United cites his appearances in the media and his current squad as to why Conte will depart. The 52-year-old signed a contract that keeps him at Spurs until 2023 when he arrived in late November.

“I don’t think he’ll be there after the summer,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport (via Daily Express)“Based on what I’ve seen in the media and the players he’s got there. I think he’ll be quite comfortable going: ‘listen, I didn’t know it was that bad.’”

“He’s not someone who will look back and regret that; I’ll be very surprised if he’s still here.”

There are a few months until the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see how Conte reacts should they miss out on the top-four. Spurs sit in seventh place, sit in seventh place, five points out of fourth place.

The north London club also has two games in hand over Manchester United, who currently occupies that fourth place.

Conte prides himself on his honestly, and so isn’t about to be sucked into frivolous promises he might not keep.

A strong finish to the season where he sees progress in his ideas being implemented, a top 6 finish plus £100m war chest and he’ll stay.

Much depends on the quality of said ‘statement’ players. Levy will have to completely change tacti ok ioo

He’ll stay, but beyond the summer? A few people saying he’ll be ‘backed’, I hope he is because unless he is he walks. Simple as that…

Unfortunately there will be lots more media stories & pundits talking about this subject for the next few months.
He’ll stay, he’s already said so.

For Conte to even think of staying beyond this summer,Levy needs to get his business done early, which he historically fails to do.If his intention remains to dithered about and leave everything to the last day or two then not only will Conte walk, but so too Harry because he will see the investment is just not happening.

Both Conte and Kane will need to see speedy action on Levy’s part and on quality too,not his usual cheap punts. Both have indicated their needs for staying ,the ball is in Levy’s court.

No certainties but I fully expect a couple of statement players in the Summer and Tonio to stay.

Those signing must be a left sided centre back (hopefully Sven Botman) and someone like Kessie to bloster the midfield.

There’s about 7 players excluding our current loan players who need to be shipped out too

I can’t see either player wanting to return to the club, so Danny boy must accept losses or Antonio and others will walk away.

We’ve already seen Kane throwing his toys out of his pram this season.

If Conte does go then this will happen all again and cause a negative vibe in the changing room and fanbase

Conte’s noncommittal to answer questions of his future plans is concerning, and he continually points that his job is about ‘helping the club improve the situation’, but I think he would prefer to stay beyond the summer and give next season a real go.
However I’m sure he will only agree to stay on if he gets at least a couple of quality signings early in the window, if not we will soon learn our fate.

If player negotiations in the summer are conducted in similar fashion to last month then Conte will walk… also have to bare in mind no show & no belly are due back in the sqaud & I cant see Levy taking a substantial loss on either player altho that is exactly what’s needed to move them on.. worst case scenario for Spurs is those two back in the fold & us looking for a new manager……

He walked out on Inter, after winning the league, Levy has to pay for at least some on loan players or not.they could go back..and Surely the chubby Argentine answer Bale Bale 🤮🤮 are nailed on for the summer…
More emotional outbursts please Antonio ..what was it the coaches change the players don’t…spot on.

It all depends if Danny boy backs him in the first month of the transfer window. If he plays his normal stupid game of waiting until the last few hours of the window…..then Antonio will go

Frankly, who gives a toss what Ferdinand thinks? For what it’s worth, I think that Conte WILL be here past the Summer, for the following reasons. 1) He has the respect of the fans, the players and the board (especially Levy), who recognise and appreciate his endeavours. I think this means something to him. 2) He is on 15 million a year and whilst I don’t doubt his integrity, that’s a lot of money to walk away from. 3) I believe he must and will give it one full off-season, to be backed by Levy in the transfer market, so he has a chance of building the team in his image. 4) He doesn’t strike me as being a quitter, in spite of his emotional outbursts, so unless he is egregiously fu*ked over by Levy in the Summer regarding transfers, I expect him to rise to the challenge of taking this team forward next season.
