“If you want to win the Premier League, you have to take risks” Pundit slams Tottenham after Liverpool loss

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham conceded three goals against Liverpool in their 3-1 loss to the Reds yesterday.

The Lilywhites had to win the game against Jurgen Klopp’s men to remain in the hunt for the title.

They started the game well and had an early goal disallowed for offside by VAR, however, they would go on to concede a soft first goal just before half time.

Sadio Mane set Roberto Firmino up for the goal, but it was a goal that shouldn’t have been scored.

Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris both had a chance to clear or catch the ball, but they allowed it to roll to the Brazilian striker.

It was a case of miscommunication with both players expecting the other to do something about it.

Chris Sutton says they both shouldn’t have been afraid of a collision and should have attempted to clear the ball instead.

It is a risky thing to do, but you have to take risks to win titles, he reckons.

He wrote on Mail Sport: “Don’t be afraid to collide with one another – just do what you’ve got to do and stop the goal. Neither did their jobs, however, and the ball trickled to Roberto Firmino.

“That left Mourinho with a very big half-time team talk. If you want to win the Premier League, you have to take risks, and he had to abandon that defence-deep mindset of his.

“At times in the first half, you could throw a blanket over the 20 outfield players on the pitch, with Tottenham camped close to their own box.

“But then it was 2-0 and it left Tottenham with a mountain to climb, particularly with Harry Kane having been substituted.

“This was another mistake by Lloris, who simply palmed the ball to Trent Alexander-Arnold. A fine finish, it has to be said.

“Then 3-1, another Tottenham mistake as Joe Rodon failed to deal with the cross by letting it run across his body. A defensive training session might be in order, Mourinho. ”

Mistakes because of relentless pressure from Liverpool due to Mou’s tactics. He is too negative and should be out the door

Klopp has many more victories over Jose than vice versa. So what’s your point?

José won’t be taking any risks with this defence. Mistakes cost us yesterday not tactics.
