Idrissa Gueye Perfect Solution For Spurs|opinion

By Joe Fish -

This summer’s transfer window is going to separate the big spenders from the really big spenders. And PSG are certainly the latter.

Le10 Sport understands that PSG Sporting Director Leonardo wants to splash the cash on two new midfielders despite the chaos anticipated amid Covid-19, and that any number of their current midfielders could be sacrificed to make space in the squad for their new arrivals.

That would include Idrissa Gueye, who only joined the Ligue 1 champions from Everton last summer, but is seen as dispensable by Leonardo according to the reports from France. Gueye has proved his worth to PSG in tougher games this season but his defensive presence is often unnecessary when the Parisians are steam rolling 80% of the division.

Le10 Sport adds that two clubs, outside of the Premier League’s “top five” (hah – sorry Arsenal), have enquired about the 30-year-old.

All roads to Tottenham’s new defensive midfielder at the moment seem to be leading towards Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Southampton captain is a good age, a good character, and a good player, but there is some cynicism among fans over whether he’s good enough for the top six.

There are no doubts about that where Gueye is concerned. For years he was the closest thing to N’Golo Kante in the Premier League, racking up interceptions and tackles and covering every inch of grass.

He would the ideal profile of player to bring balance to our midfield and is someone Daniel Levy should seriously consider if he is available.
