Last year, Tottenham Hotspur pulled a last-minute deal for FC Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal during the summer transfer window. It was a surprise move to help reinforce the right-back position.
However, a few months into his first season, the Brazilian has yet to convince Spurs that he’s the right man for the job. Furthermore, Football. London’s Alasdair Gold shared his thoughts on “Gold and Guest talk Tottenham” regarding the future of Royal.
Gold stated that he would not be surprised to see Royal leave the club in the summer should manager Antonio Conte stick around next season.
“He may well come good, but there’s just got to be so much improvement,” Gold said. “If Conte is around next season, I can’t see Emerson Royal being one of his wing-backs. I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s a player who moves on quite quickly again in the summer.”
Tottenham reportedly paid £26-million for the 23-year-old and hasn’t been worth what the purchased.
Royal played Middlesbrough’s Josh Coburn onside and was late on his slide to block the shot leading to the game-winning goal and Tottenham’s elimination from the FA Cup.
It’s one sample of the challenging campaign Royal has endured with Spurs. This season, Royal has made 33 appearances for Spurs, averaging 75 minutes per game in Premier League competition.
Emerson Chicken Royale is the biggest flop ever.
Emerson Chicken Royale is the biggest flop ever. Remember when Spurs tried to announce they had a new Royal in town hahahaha. He should go link up with biscuit bolasie and sell his chicken royale in bossman’s shop.
To buy Traore ..wasn’t convinced but take your point.
Next ….Buy once buy 5 times
Partly true, but his errors have been one- on-one with an opponent in the box which are situations he should be dealing with, regardless of those around him.
Spot on, there is little logic in appointing him, other than a PR stunt to take the heat away from old Baldy Bonce…
Romero might just need to adjust to the league, which can take time to be fair. However, his injuries and then the errors when faced with direct physical play is slightly concerning. I’d put him at the forefront of the losses against the lesser sides, two big errors recently.
Paratici (like all the players he’s signed bar Gollini) has no experience in England whatsoever, so how he’s supposed to know what kind of player works well here is anyone’s guess…
I reckon he’s gone in six months, Conte probably sooner…
Yet another punt gone wonky…
A center back is only as good as the midfielders in front of him.
Basically we have a man choosing what he considers suitable players for a league he has very limited knowledge of.
I have been questioning Paratici for ages on here based initially on “what made you think that a 2 time failure in England before would work at Spurs?” Gollini lovely bloke but yet another GK who I get the shakes when he is on the ball last one this happened to was Vorm.
All of these loanees how much of a loss are we going to make on our 3 musketeers. None of the clubs can afford what we paid for them and tbf I never understood the deal for Bryan, With Lamela it must have made him around £40m for yet another punt.
I said PUNT….he is the brightest of the 3 and I never want to see NDonkey back at Spurs.
And dont forget the help we gave Barcelona as well
Does anyone really care any more.We are a laughing stock. At least we got the stadium naming rights signed………oh no wait a minute. What about the world class stadium with the Championship side playing in it.
Or the world class academy which regularly produces players who never get picked. There must be one or two of them who are worth a punt over some of our regular starters.
Absolutely agree, he’s just a buffer for Teflon Levy. Barca must have thought it was Christmas when we signed Emerson Royal. Gollini is now being talked about as on his way, Gil is on loan and doing well at Valencia from whence he will probably never return. Sarr has not pulled up any trees at Metz this season. I’m not sure about Romero, there might be a plyer in there but there’s always a mistake in him and a yellow card. Kulusevski must be the slowest winger I’ve ever seen and I am not sure why we bought another DM in Bentancur when we were crying out for an AM. Still, we can console ourselves with the knowledge that our deals with Juve helped them fund the purchase of Vlahovic who had been heavily linked with us but was always an unrealistic target alongside so many others in the past that we are always linked with but never sign.
Totally right. Just like Levy, he flatters to deceive. If these players were any good they would’ve been snatched up by better clubs.
Romero could have it in him if he toughens up as there’s a player there, but his inconsistency is symptomatic of the team as a whole. As for Royal, he’s making Doherty look competent.
He might come good, better start signing players that have come good.
Paratici has done absolutely nothing to convince me that his presence is anything other than window dressing. Mr “in the race for important players” needs to stop signing utter cross like Royal and Gollini.
I’m not quite as enthusiastic about Romero as some either, quality against footballing sides but he’s been bullied against the more direct ‘lesser’ opponents. I’m not sure how well suited he is to the physicality of English football.
Also, does Paratici know about any players that haven’t previously been scouted by Juventus? Not convinced by any of his activities so far…
