“I wanted something else” – Tanguy Ndombele discusses departing from Tottenham

By Eddie Razo -

When Tottenham Hotspur decided to spend £54million on Tanguy Ndombele in 2019, the north London club hoped to be getting a midfielder that would be a mainstay at the position for years to come.

Fast forward two and half years, and the 25-year-old is back with Olympique Lyonnais on a loan deal. Ndombele spoke with RMC Sport (via Sky Sports), where he spoke about his time with the Premier League side.

“I’ve known five coaches in two-and-a-half years. It’s not their fault, but I had a little trouble at Tottenham. I wanted something else. Lyon, as I know, is better for adaptation,” Ndombele said.

Whether Ndombele stays past this season in France remains to be seen, but despite departing, the midfielder doesn’t think his career is over with Tottenham. He remains under contract with Spurs, and if Lyon decides not to exercise the option to buy, Ndombele will return.

“I have three-and-a-half months before the end of the season, and Lyon is not bad for me. I left through the front door, and it’s a risk to come back. I took that risk,” Ndombele said.

“I think I’m a better player than when I left. I learned in England, even though it didn’t go well. I’m better physically and mentally.”

Despite having a contract with Tottenham, it doesn’t seem as though Ndombele has a future in north London. Spurs will hope that the midfielder raises his stock with Lyon that either has the French club or another club take Ndombele this summer.

Grampa ‘GloryGumbo’, why don’t all you Botch lovers change the record? You idolise a loser, praise him like he’s Sir Alex, and still bang on about him years after he’s gone, all while we have an actual world class manager in charge.. Poor deluded fools, you are the parrots constantly churning out the same 💩, how about some actual insightful football opinions for a change.. You waffling old buffoon.

He told us several times in a 5 year period that no player came in without his approval.. He spent years building his squad when the majority of his players he inherited…. Now he told us during the stadium build that he had no control over transfers, that he wanted his role changed from manager to coach.. Then he was given his big money to spend and look what happened.. We were already on a downwards trajectory.. I also blame Hitchen and Levy of course.. Botch certainly had say in players. Remember how quick Townsend was out the door…. Homework? Innit? Fcuk off you mug

He was out of shape and lazy from the start and never improved, can try and blame the club all we want but the guy only has himself to blame. Due diligence is the buzzword that we ignored there. Was it a Poch pick that didn’t work out and broke all faith in him like Lo Celso?

“I wanted something else”. He said the same thing everyday he returned to KFC.

What utter twaddle you spout. Did Poch turn you down for an autograph or something? It’s probably the one-eyed cyclops look that frightened the poor man. Get some perspective.

Let’s hope he convinces Lyon to sign him permanently. Bags of ability but never seemed settled here or…fit.

“I’ve known five coaches in two-and-a-half years” – yep, and you weren’t fit to play regularly under any of them. Sorry, but there’s probably two people to blame here: you and whoever failed to do ANY due diligence ahead of signing you.

He had nothing to do with transfers at Spurs (he has said this several times), he wanted Wynaldum (who eventually joined him over two years later at PSG). Hitchen and Levy wanted a 22 year old instead and failed to do their homework. Bit like you then innit.

” It’s not their fault. I had a little trouble. I wanted something else. Lyon, as I know, is better for adaption. I’m better physically and mentally”… All while feeling no pressure… Tanguy is on another planet.

We wanted ‘something else’ too Tangy, to see you play a whole 90 mins of football, for your 200k a week.

I will be very concerned if he’s ever allowed to darken our doorstep again. Turned out to be a grade 1 wrongun, it just took about two and a half years for the penny to drop with the Bald maestro. Who’s fault it was that the club was in such disarray and decline by the time he joined…
