“I am very happy” – Rodrigo Bentancur discusses his first few months at Tottenham

By Eddie Razo -

The last time that FIFA international window was open, Tottenham Hotspur made a deal to acquire Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus while the 24-year-old was playing for Uruguay.

Spurs paid €19-million (£15.8-million) + €6-million in performance-based add-ons to land the Uruguayan to help improve their midfield, which needed reinforcement.

Bentancur has had a couple of months adapting and getting accustomed to the Premier League and his new teammates at Spurs.

In an interview with ESPN Argentina, he spoke about his relationship with manager Antonio Conte and how he’s feeling switching leagues, going from Serie A to the Premier League.

“It’s the best league right now. I am very happy to play at Tottenham in that league and to be taking advantage of this opportunity,” Bentancur said.

The midfielder added that playing in the Premier League will help him improve as a player and continued by sharing his thoughts on seeing Harry Kane week-in and week-out during training sessions and fixtures.

“[Playing in the Premier League] is going to help me a lot to continue improving,” Bentancur said. “Technically and physically [Kane] is an incredible player, very complete; it is an honor and a pleasure to have him as a colleague.”

Bentancur is a pillar for Spurs as they revamped their squad and midfield as they hope to be contending for the league and trophies.

Why oh why. Copy and pasted from another yesterday blog. “If complimenting Rodrigo, Winks is the first player comes to mind, it is an insult to Betancur”. They are not in the same league as footballers, period. Just saying. No sentence or references should include Ali,Tanguy, Winks or Locelso right now. These “2 Juve reiects” according to some has changed the balance of the team. Not much comes after them which has been the problem for 8 years. Good first 11 and then the precipitous drop off on talent to have a complete and balanced squad at each positions. Betancur made more forward passes in 2 months than Winks and Davies combined all year.

He does look proper …just Hope Levy doesn’t see Bentancour as a reason to sell PEH or Skipp, we need a stronger squad not a weaker one.
