“I am so, so happy” Jose Mourinho cannot hide his delight

Tottenham has just completed the signing of Matt Doherty from Wolves and it is safe to say that Jose Mourinho has been thrilled by that.

The Republic of Ireland international joins Spurs after 10 largely successful years on the books at Wolves.

He helped them return to the Premier League in 2018 and they have been one of the standout sides in the English top-flight since that time.

He helped them reach the knockout stages of the last Europa League and he scored 15 goals and provided the same number of assists for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side over the past two seasons.

Spurs have been adding players to their team with Mourinho having already landed Joe Hart and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but the addition of Doherty has really delighted him and he cannot hide that.

Speaking to the club’s website after the signing of the full-back, Mourinho praised the club for getting the business done and claimed that he hated to play against the player.

“First of all I have to thank Mr Levy and Steve [Hitchen], also the player and agent to trust us and to make it happen,” he told the club’s official website.

“I hate to play against him, so I’m so, so happy that I don’t play against him again. I’m so happy that we have him.

“Incredible career at Wolves…League One, Championship, Premier League and Europa League. He did everything for them, so job done there.

“I know that he’s leaving with a lot pf pride but this is one new step for him and he’s full of motivation. I am so, so happy.

“We always want to have the best players and best possible squad. We are going to have months of competition non stop and we need a better squad than we had in the last season.

“These three players, Matt, Joe [Hart] and Pierre [Hojbjerg], the club did amazing to give to the squad. It’s really, really important for us that we are going to be stronger.”
