Tottenham Hotspur is fighting for a top-four finish in the Premier League to clinch UEFA Champions League football for next season. However, the north London club has squandered chances to take three points at times; with a tight race, points are valuable.
As a result, manager Antonio Conte has shown frustration with his squad for their performances. Despite demanding more from his team, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris stated that he understands when the Italian tactician gets upset and requires more during his news conference.
“Obviously, after four months, we start to know each other well,” the 35-year-old said, per The Athletic. “I think he’s showing a lot of passion, and he’s doing his job with a lot of emotion.
“At some moments, we can understand his frustration. The players as well, we have this frustration, but we keep going, we keep working.”
Spurs sit three points behind Arsenal, which occupies that fourth spot in the Premier League table. This weekend, Tottenham welcomes West Ham United, who they’re tied with 48 points, but a win over The Hammers would allow them to leap over in the standings.
If Tottenham wins, they would only be trailing Manchester United and Arsenal for that fourth-place finish, so Lloris stated he understands the magnitude of the upcoming fixture.
“It’s clear, West Ham is going to be massive for us and could make the difference for the final race (for top four),” Lloris added.
“When we started this week, especially after the disappointment of the Manchester United game, we had a clear target with Brighton away and West Ham home before the international break — to take maximum points to be close for the European places.”
