Hoddle Agrees That Kane Holds The Power This Summer

By The Boy -

Hopefully, the penny will drop, and we can stop seeing some fans clogging the Internet with talk about some fantasy Harry Kane’s price tag keeping him safe and sound at Tottenham. This is not the case, nor has it ever been the case.

When I published the blog highlighted above it was met with pretty universal approval, but only amongst my demographic. As a small experiment, I also posted it on reddit to see what the millennials and the Americans made of it. The responses were explosively negative, to the point the Admins pulled the plug. The overwhelming consensus on that platform was that Kane was going nowhere because Mr. Levy had his price.

Glenn Hoddle in his podcast of perhaps Hoddcast, Glenn felt that a game or chess was likely to be underway, “Losing a quality player like Kane would be a setback to any club. I do not know whether it is in Tottenham’s hands. I think it is Harry Kane’s decision at the end of the day, to put his foot down and say he wants to go somewhere else and win trophies.”

I cannot emphasize enough, if Harry Kane stays at Tottenham, it will not be because Daniel Levy stood firm. Any outcome will be at the will of the player, just as it was with Michael Carrick, Dimitar Berbatov, Luka Modrić, Gareth Bale, and Kyle Walker before him.

Hoddle has been in the game all his life and of course, knows Spurs inside out. I know whose advice I’ll take, thanks very much.

I too would hate to see Kane leave. However unlike other big name departures from the lane in the past this will really shine a light on Levy.
He will have to justify why his administration of the club had led to someone who clearly loves the club seeking new pastures.

Fans must be naïve to think Kane will cost too much. Mega deals are done over a few years so clubs can easily structure an Mbappe or Kane deal in the summer. We might be receiving Kane money for the next 5 years but if that what it takes to get full value, Levy will just do that. Come 2026 the CoVid will be a thing of the past, new TV deals will be in place for EPL and Ch Lg. Who knows we might use the money wisely and start a whole new dream! Even after the Bale money was largely wasted we did eventually improve in to a top 4 team.

Totally agree. To not build a team around Kane was criminal.

He’s fast approaching the twilight of his career. It’s likely that when he moves it will be his one and only apart from ending up in China for a final pay day.

He will do what’s necessary to get that move. Especially as it’s the one that will hopefully get him the medals he deserves.

I think a lot of the bigger clubs are pleading poverty in order to depress the upcoming transfer market. With FFP pretty much dead I think the clubs with rich owners City Chelsea PSG will be able to exploit some of the more financially distressed clubs which might include ourselves.

Julien Laurens (renowned French journalist) has just said Kane to PSG is Impossible.

Their priority is tying down Neymar and Mbappe to £20-30m a year deals plus signing fee so he says finding the required £150m for Kane is impossible.

Isn’t there a Levy quote that says the two things I love are making money and supporting Tottenham Hotspur? If so we all know in which order..

Harry Kane is a Spurs icon. A truly great professional on and off the field. He is world class and he plays for Spurs and he loves Spurs. He has become the player he is through talent, an insane work ethic and by sheer bloody mindlessness. He did it all in spite of incompetent coaching staff who didn’t know what to do with him. He is a great example to young kids and is captain of his country. He is a player that Spurs fans are immensely proud to call ‘one of their own’ If he does leave it will hurt more than Gazza, Klinsman, Carrick, Berbatov, Modric, Bale and Walker put together.

I hope he stays because if he leaves I don’t know what I’d be supporting anymore. The Lane is gone, the cups are gone. We are an anchor tenant in our own home and all that is left is the is the giant Cockerel and Harry to remind us we are indeed Tottenham Hotspur FC. If he does go perhaps I should forget about football and learn to appreciate engineering feats like dual purpose football stadiums that will pour my pint in 7 seconds to wash down my vegan bibimbap. Maybe I should be more excited about records for lowest net spend by club to finish in the top 4 most times since the titanic sank or highest recorded attendance for a PL match in London on a Tuesday night. Perhaps I should develop a passion for land management and marvel at how THFC has diversified as a land acquisition agency with our chairman running family businesses out of town and snapping up land banks in north London like a hungry hippo.

Spurs won the lottery with Kane, a world-class player who cost us nothing. Levy’s negligence will be to blame If he leaves to book-end his career with trophies. Instead of complementing his talents with other world class players, Levy peppered the quad with rubbish like Jansen, N’Jie and NKoudou to name but a few. To not capitalise on this once in every life-time gift from the footballing Gods is criminal and I hope he is ready for the fire if Kane does decide his future lies elsewhere.

Yeah you’d need to get up early to outfox Daniel.

Not sure Kane is a “down tools” kind of character. And Levy won’t bear to have his pants pulled down by a buying club.

Levy will have his price. Interested clubs will have theirs. If HK see’s a club he likes make a bid he’ll do what previous players did and down tools. Levy will huff and puff but ultimately HK will leave.

Yeah I agree with you there. Levy also won’t want to be held to such account by a player anyway so he is unlikely to offer these kind of assurances to any player.

I’m not sure about the leaving on a free thing…Levy would argue he had the player for the best years of his career and managed to keep hold of him despite interest from the elite european clubs.

It’s a complex situation though and time will reveal all.

I agree that it is down to Harry to say he wants to go elsewhere and win trophies. But I still don’t see who affords him in this climate with no clear indication on when football (and life in general) will return to normal.

He just doesn’t strike me as the kind of personality that would be so public about it….and I feel he would need to in order to force the issue.

I’m on the fence personally, I’d love it if he stayed but would understand if he left.

My wider opinion is that football has been financially decimated and I’m struggling to see how the big clubs can continue to spend how they used to. I have made this point a number of times in the comments section on various blogs and the only response I ever get is “they just will” every big club (except city) have publicly said they are financially unstable or they cannot spend huge money in the summer and will look at the free agent market. So who spends £100m+ on a 28 year old?

You can imagine the Levy idea of what constitutes a top class player.Cheap as chips and someone he will hope to see a small profit on at the end of the day.

I don’t think it is a question of money with Harry,he’s very driven and I think he wants tangible rewards for his efforts on the pitch.A couple of years at City for example and his trophy cabinet would probably be fuller than the one at Spurs. The move hasn’t done Bonzo any harm.

His only problem as I see it is the limited number of suitors and at almost 28 he can’t lose any more time. Were he to stay the only thing he is likely to do is break Greaves’ goalscoring record for Spurs and is that enough even for one of our own?

I’ve stated before he would leave with my blessing and win everything his talent deserves. He still has 3 years left on his contract of course, but if he was to run that down levy could never live with the embarrassment of getting nothing for his biggest asset.

Apparently this is quite common at clubs with star players. They have objectives written into their contract such as “the club will make considerable effort to strengthen in X position”

I would like to see Harry go into Levy’s office at the end of the season and tell him to produce a list of four or five top class players that will be coming in the summer or else he’s off. I think that would be fair to everybody, either put up or shut up.

Agreed. I’m pinning my hopes on a lack of desire to uproot /unsettle his family and a judas c@mpbell lack of ambition to play abroad. Sadly.

Harry Kane should watch the video of Roy’s assessment of the current situation in the other blog. If he wants to start to decorate his drinks cabinet with medals that his family can savior the rest of their lives then it’s not obvious what he should do. Sadly.
