“His time is up”, “just isn’t good enough” – Tottenham midfielder brutally slammed by former player

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara has slammed Eric Dier claiming that his time at the club is over.

O’Hara believes Dier has been left upset by Ange Postecoglou’s decision to snub him from the captain and vice-captain role given how long he has been at the club.

But the talkSport pundit was brutal in his assessment of the defender stating that he is not good enough to play for Spurs.

He emphasised that Dier’s quality does not match Tottenham’s ambitions, and the club needs to move forward with new players under the new manager.

He told Sky Sports (via HITC):

“I don’t think he should be starting for Tottenham.”

“His time is up at Tottenham, if I am honest. I don’t think he is good enough to play for Tottenham.

“Can he be a squad player? Maybe. But I don’t think he sees himself as a squad player. I think he feels he is good enough to be playing.

“I think he is upset that he hasn’t been given the opportunity to be captain or vice-captain. He has been at the club a long time and he has been a loyal servant.

“But he just isn’t good enough. Tottenham needs to move on. This is the future now. New manager, we have some new players in, freshen it up and see what happens.”

Dier did not have the best of seasons last campaign and came under a lot of criticism for his sub par performances prompting speculation about his place in the squad.

And he has failed to impress the new manager who has made it clear that he wants to have a solid defense.

The club has so far signed Micky van de Ven to bolster the defense but are reportedly looking to sign one more top quality centre-back before the window shuts.

Fulham are interested in signing Dier but the player reportedly wants to stay at the club and leave on a free next summer. But Spurs are hoping to cash in on him this summer.

The player is said to be open to a loan move however, which would be the second best option for Spurs if they want to get him off their wagelist.
