According to The Athletic, there is a ‘tense situation’ developing regarding Eric Dier’s future as the player’s contract expires next summer and Spurs are keen on cashing in on him this summer.
Ange Postecoglou does not seem to fancy the Englishman too much. He has not been included in the squads for the opening two Premier League games and it is evident that he is not in the manager’s plans.
The report claims that while the player might want to stay at the club this season to fight for his place and leave on a free next year, the club are keen either selling him. Fulham are said to be interested in signing him on a permanent deal.
However, Dier is not keen on a permanent move but is open to the right loan move.
At this point, it is suggested that the most likely outcome would be a move away next summer on a free transfer.
The 29-year-old did not have the best of seasons last campaign and came under a lot of criticism for his sub par performances prompting speculation about his place in the squad.
Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that he wants to have a strong defense and the club are already working to get defensive reinforcements.
They have already signed Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg and Ashley Phillips from Blackburn.
They are also reportedly hoping to sign at least one more centre back before the transfer window ends.
TBH says:
With just over a week remaining until the end of the transfer window, it looks less likely that Spurs will be able to sign another top-class centre-back in time.
This means, any injury to the first-choice centre-backs would give an opportunity to Dier to try and force his way back to the team.
Whether he stays or leaves on loan remains to be seen.
