“He’s not the sort of manager they were looking for” David Ornstein on Nuno Espírito Santo talks| video

By The Boy -

David Ornstein is a brave man for seeking to play down the circus that the club clearly believes has plagued Daniel Levy’s hunt for a new head coach.

I take a view that the situation is yet another self-inflicted fiasco, borne out of Tottenham being the first club in world football to fire José Mourinho before he won a trophy.

A brief glimpse at the comments for this Sky Sports video gives one the flavour of public opinion, and much of the language used is unkind, to put it mildly.

It ‘does’ if you’re not allowed to announce so as to not disrupt a national teams chances.

They are crumbs, but that’s all I’ve got right now! 🤪

I’ll hold onto crumbs… But I’d have a strong suspicion that Sonny knows something is happening else why would he tie himself?

As for the long wait for someone, I wouldn’t be overly surprised if we’re waiting on Mancini winning the euros. He’s transformed Italy and was good at City. Again, it’s crumbs, but we seem to be waiting and I don’t want to be waiting for Martinez!

Not just him but the minority who hung onto his coat tails.
All they had in their locker was

  1. We don’t want to do a Leeds
  2. I remember the 90s

Klinsmann anybody?

1. “On the form he had the team display prior to his sacking..”
= ONLY Manchester City, Liverpool & Manchester United had gained more points during his tenure.
* Not the best but sure not the worst!
2. “had promised to deliver titles in the short term….FAILED spectacularly over the course of 18 months..” (not really was split over 2 seasons & technically only 13 months & let’s not forget, in the middle of a covid hit 2 seasons)
= Sir Alex Ferguson FAILED spectacularly for 3½ YEARS!
Jurgen Klopp FAILED spectacularly for 3 YEARS!
Pep Guardiola FAILED spectacularly for 1 season! (12 months by your reckoning).
*IF given the chance, who knows? An anti-Mourinho stance à la ‘just because’ isn’t objective.
3. “ONLY decision Levy had got right since….”
= So ‘right’ that THFC could possibly have won a trophy but he pulled the plug to save paying a bonus?
So ‘right’ that THFC are in a managerless, clusterf**k of a mess right now??
*Well done Mr.Levy, you have a supporter for making THFC a laughing stock.

How on earth can sacking a manager a week before a cup final be considered right? What planet are you on? Planet Levy? When Enic/Levy took over, they also sacked Graham 3 weeks before the FA Cup semi final v Arsenal after a great quarter final win at West Ham too. Another wrong decision. Hoddle for Graham was correct but not at that time!

If we end up with Nuno after all this time and all this searching, I really can’t see how Levy can keep his job, it’s been a complete farce and Levy has made this club a laughing stock. Everybody knows that Nuno is not the man for the job, the fans will hate his kind of football and it even goes against the criteria that Levy put on the next manager coming in, he had to play exciting attacking football, totally the opposite of the kind that Nuno plays. Levy has to go, signing Nuno is signs of desperation. Levy, Lewis and ENIC OUT !!!!

I’ve been watching the Leeds All or Nothing series too. What strikes me most is the difference between involvement and ownership. The Leeds board are involved in everything the club is about and so they feel it all. We just have owners.

No manager a week before preseason is really a bleak set of circumstances. If the manager we are after is in club football then the undoubtably more organised club we try to prise him from will be miffed to say the least. This will be another example of Levy spreading goodwill amongst the football community. How many bridges can this man burn? If he’s out of work you have to ask the question, why is he out of work? If he’s managing in the European Championship then I hope to god it’s Roberto Mancini and not Martinez. Either way you look at this it does not look good.
The press are taking speculation to a whole new level. The truth is, and I really believe this to be the truth. Is that nobody in the whole world knows who the next manager will be because Spurs are so far away from getting a man.
We get told not to believe what’s reported and I don’t need to be told this. The only thing I know is that we don’t have a manager and it doesn’t take over 6 weeks to find one.

Both videos struck a chord. The Leeds one because my dad’s been a Leeds fan for a long time, so he’s had his fair bit of trauma when they were put into League 1 and then spent a lot of time in the Championship changing managers like socks, selling their best players and having borderline insane people like Cellino in charge – until they finally got their stuff together. Bielsa, Radrizzani and Orta seem like a winning combo, and I thought the word “authenticity” was very apt. That is exactly what Leeds have and we don’t. One single ambition from the owners, to the manager, to the players and fans. Who’d have thought that would work?

As for the Spurs video… I just don’t know how “journalists” or “reporters” can get away with excreting so many nonsensical transfer/manager rumours. Then again, I’ve seen people laud Paratici’s appointment because “Levy will finally have nothing to do with transfers”. 🤣 Such people will probably click on anything Spurs-related and written in all-caps.

I’m really sad for Sonny, if he really still believes in jam tomorrow. He’s been here, what, seven years? Heartbreaking.

Riddle me this…what makes you say it was the “right” decision out of interest…how can he sink the club with 4 or so games left….it was all about saying money – that’s clear now with no manager in place – BUT, there was a slight chance he could have done a job on City…….so, what was “right” about the decision?
