Cristian Romero has backed his Giovani Lo Celso to turn his Tottenham career around by showing Spurs fans his best this season.
The Argentine midfielder is in contention to start against Bournemouth after James Maddison was ruled out with an injury. Lo Celso is set to replace him in the team which will be his first Premier League start since October 2021.
He was one of the best players in pre-season this summer impressive the new manager with his performances to an extent where Ange admitted that he is trying to convince him to stay.
And Romero has now admitted that Lo Celso wants to stay at the club. In an interview with Standard Sport, he said:
“Gio is a fantastic player. Obviously, I know him, he’s my friend, but Gio the player can bring so much to Tottenham.”
“He’s an intelligent player, he can bring so much to the forwards. I hope he can stay and he has chances. I know he wants to stay. He’s willing, he wants to compete and have a great year in the Premier League. That’s really important.”
Lo Celso has been strongly linked with a loan move to Real Betis in the last few days. According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti the Spanish side are actively pursuing a deal for him and have made him their priority.
He has claimed that the negotiations are ongoing and that Spurs are open to a loan move but want to include an obligation to buy clause in the deal.
However, it is interesting to see whether Tottenham’s stance on him changes after the injury to James Maddison, specially if he impresses against Bournemouth.
