“He is someone who could come in and organise that defence” Pundit talks up possible Bonucci transfer

By Bruce Grove -

Leonardo Bonucci has been linked with a sensational move to Tottenham as Fabio Paratici looks to change the squad he inherits in north London.

Spurs have underachieved for years now and they have made Paratici their director of football because of the success he enjoyed at Juventus.

He helped the Old Lady to win nine consecutive league titles before leaving them at the end of last season.

He would be expected to bring some familiar faces to London and one of the most high-profile transfers he can pull off would be signing Bonucci for Spurs.

The Italian centre-back is one of the best in Serie A and he remains a key member of the Juve and Italian national team squads.

It wouldn’t be easy to take him away from Serie A and he might not impress in England.

Former Arsenal man, Kevin Campbell spoke about the exciting prospect of Tottenham signing him and admits that Bonucci will organise Tottenham’s defence and might have the physicality to thrive in England.

However, he thinks the defender will struggle with the pace of the English game.

Campbell told Football Insider: “Bonucci’s no spring chicken but he is someone who could come in and organise that defence which is needed at Spurs.

“He’s never played in the Premier League before and at the end of the day what you can get away with in Italy, you can’t in England.

“The football is a lot quicker and a lot more physical here and while he will be fine with the physicality I think he would struggle with the pace of the game.

“It will be an interesting one to keep an eye on. I think it would be a big signing but a big gamble.”

Could do well to sit this one out. Credibility matters here.

I don’t think Juventus or Italy would pick a player who had to be carried by ‘good’ players just out of sentiment.

He’s already 34 so makes Toby like an academy player. He’s been surrounded by very good players at Juventus and Italy.

If in the unlikely Levy was to offer him a contract of any length he would be in for a real cultural shock coming to us.Can you imagine him trying to organise Dier and Sanchez. The whole idea is a bad joke.

Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack?

May as well keep Toby. Too old, would be unsuited to the Prem. I can see every Italian player under 45 will be touted as going to ENIC fc in the coming couple of months.

Not a chance of this happening, wrong on so many levels.

We have a knack of buying players who as soon as they arrive at the club turn out to be piss poor……Chelsea go and buy Thiago Silva and he had an amazing season for them, I don’t know if we are cursed or just have a very bad scouting set up. The only positive I can take from last season shambles was that we were only 7 points off from a top four finish. If we can be organised at the back we have a base to build on. Think we all know that Aurier, Dier, Sanchez, Davies,Sissoko, Winks, Lamela, Dele, & Cameron Carter-Vickers needs to be moved on. Then build from there.

I think he’d be an excellent signing. International football is a gear up again in pace and quality from the Premier League and he’s been one of Italy’s best defenders.
