Harry Redknapp reveals how Spurs missed out on signing Eden Hazard

By Bruce Grove -

Harry Redknapp has revealed that Spurs were very close to signing Eden Hazard in 2012 before the Belgian moved to Chelsea instead.

Hazard was starring for Lille in the French top flight and he was attracting the attention of several top Premier League teams, Spurs were one of them.

The Lilywhites were one of the top English teams under Redknapp and they had managed to convince the Belgian to join them.

Redknapp claims that Hazard told them that he will join them in the summer if they got Champions League football.

They did finished fourth in that campaign, however, Chelsea claimed the final qualifying spot because they won the Champions League even though the Blues finished 6th in the Premier League.

His decision was Chelsea and he joined the Blues whom he played for until last summer when he moved to Real Madrid.

He told Sky Sports as quoted by Sun Sports: “I lost Eden Hazard, he wanted to come to Tottenham but he said he would only come if we got Champions League football.

“We finished fourth that year, Chelsea finished sixth, they won the Champions League and we didn’t make it.

“He ended up going to Chelsea.”

Spurs’ fans can only wonder what would have been if they had landed him and added him to Gareth Bale in the same line-up.
