Harry Kane Clearly On A Different Trajectory|Levy’s almost out of time

By The Boy -

More Amazon documentary reviewing, and here we examine ‘character’.

Naturally, the most fascinating aspect of All Or Nothing is the stuff that we’ve all been desperate to see, namely what all the characters are like when they aren’t on our screens, just for the duration of a football match.

José Mourinho is exactly as one would imagine him to be, with his mind constantly running at hundreds of miles an hour in order to remain one step ahead of anyone within 10 feet of him. Which is no criticism, as his career has consistently placed him close to tens of thousands of folk all wishing him to lose.

On the training pitches we see him introducing himself to lads in their twenties, whom several of which are already millionaires, the 56-year-old’s manner is that of not of a father, but perhaps a father in-law, a dad who is comfortable enough to drop ‘f’ and ‘c-bombs’ without it all looking too forced. Frequently he is almost talking to himself when initially engaging with some of our brain surgeons, but he knows that he will only get them to open up if he can create a dialogue, and they like most young men are not going to do that unprompted.

And the clear exception here is Harry Kane and it is nothing shy of a tragedy that Pochettino was incapable of making Kane captain. Our worst suspicions are confirmed when Hugo Lloris comes across as being on the polite side of shy, providing the blandest of sound bites, whilst Harry’s determined character dominates every room he stands in. Forget the potty mouth stuff in the dressing room. Kane is on a different trajectory to all the other Tottenham players and speaks of hiding and laziness, when assessing why it frequently all goes wrong.

There is zero percent of me that believes Harry Kane relishes the one of our own song, or that this caressing of the big man with it – will influence him to stay. I feel sorry those who believe it to be a factor,

Harry’s one to one with Mourinho is revealing, to the point that I’m surprised that he’s still here. That’s not written for dramatic effect, it simply doesn’t add up that a man who has clear career path in his mind hit the global stature of Messi and Ronaldo, is still plodding up and down the grass to little good purpose at Tottenham.

Unless Mourinho can wrangle some silverware this season, then I see no coherent reason why this won’t be Harry’s last one with us.

It’s all about keeping a lid on the purse strings with Enic and Daniel. No way would they sanction a move for a world class top top player because they will not break that wage structure and pay what is needed to bring that type of player in . HK is probably the highest earner so no one comes in earning more than him. It’s perfect for Enic , keep the interest there for the fans just enough and keep the profits coming in for the club/owners, hence the lack of signings at those critical moments, all designed to disrupt the momentum and stall the progress. I would love to be proved wrong of course, come Daniel make my day 😂TTID 👍

The guy who won it the most is Messi. He cost Barca under 20 mil and came from newell old boys…. Modric came from Zagrab and he has won it… Bale and Mane came from southampton they are good enough… Doherty was the second best right back in the league last year. Are you not even happy with him?

So is Levy still targeting the top four as the main objective? Or has he changed under Jose and more concerned in winning a cup? If he has changed then will we see Jose play his strongest team in the cups? Irrespective of where we finish in the league. It wasn’t just the top teams who fielded weakened sides in the cup, they all did it.

Fact is under Enic’s stewardship we have reached 4 league cup finals, a champions league final and 4 FA cup semi-finals. We have won one of these big games. Why always the bridesmaids and rarely the bride? There has been a culture of acceptance of under achievement for too long. Hopefully that all changes under Mourinho. He is a winner.

The person who has won it the most is Messi and he cost Barca nothing. Under 20 mil for sure… Kane cost us nothing and he has a chance of winning it one day… Bale came from Southampton didn’t you even like him? Do you not like Doherty from wolves? Second best right back in the prem behind arnold trent…

I think that is a personal choice as the two cups have been regrettably downgraded by the bigger teams. In a perfect world, one aspires to win the PL and or the CL. In order to achieve that, and we did come close under Poch, you must aim for a top four place. I don’t enjoy the Europa League at all which can also have a negative effect on your PL pretensions.

What happens now if Mourinho wins a cup and finishes outside the top six,has Levy’s stance on the top four changed to win a cup? Tottenhams support is very divided on what is classed as success winning a cup or finishing in the top four,it’s hard to expect both next season.I have not enjoyed the domestic cups for a long time watching sides resting their best players for the PL or CL matches within the same week. The only times I have seen Spurs play in the top run of europes best club Competion have been 4 times under Poch and once under Harry ,5 times in total since we won the league 59 years ago.

I can’t agree with your last sentence. I think top four was Levy’s financial priority. I am sure that Poch wanted to win some silverware. To make it worse, he was probably promised transfer funds if we maintained a top four place.

I understand our squad wasn’t as good, but if we had played our best eleven in every round while others played weakened sides we could have won either the domestic cups. We may then not have finished in the top four, but we would have won trophies, and wouldn’t have to listen to everyone reminding us about only winning one cup in 20 years. We had good enough players to have achieved success under Poch but finishing in the top four was his priority.

We did not have the same strength of squad as other clubs. I am sure that his instructions were to get a top four place as a financial priority for Enic’s lofty ambitions. Fielding a weakened team for FA or League Cup fixtures was an understandable trade off, particularly with the high pressing game we played at the time which left many of our players exhausted or injured by the season end.

Spurs starting eleven under Poch could easily have won the FA cup or league cup but as he didn’t take either cup seriously and fielded weakened teams that’s down to his mismanaging and can’t be blamed on not having the players to win both.

Bit harsh on Hugo there H.
I saw him shouting at Son for not trying and in no way was that scripted/contrived.

The problem lies in our defence and player fitness. Spurs had a great goal scoring side but we were plagued with injuries and a tendency to let in goals from the sides we should have outclassed.

Hopefully a fit Harry Kane and a lot of new signing will make all the difference this season.

I am surprised that Kane is still at Spurs. I am sure he is ambitious as he appears to be very driven, and his success is down to his own hard work, rather than the innate skill of a Messi or Ronaldo. Is the reason that we have always been a selling club because the best and most ambitious players that we had saw the writing on the wall with Levy and that they knew would never win major honours with Spurs. Even Kyle Walker realised that and he doesn’t strike me as the sharpest tool in the box. In my mind in recent times, we have had two sides under Redknapp and Poch that could have gone on to win major honours if they had been backed by the chairman with the appropriate level of reinforcements. Redknapp got Saha and Nelsen and Poch got nobody. Can any Spurs fan be surprised that we only have one trophy in twenty years. Even if once the Covid crisis is over, we start producing substantial income from the stadium, I remain unconvinced that it will be spent wisely in new recruitment even if any of trickles down to the football club at all. There is one recurring problem at Spurs that has and will always hold us back and that is Levy. Nothing will change unless Enic sell up or Lewis sees the light and sacks Levy.

We have signed 2 strong energetic players. A few more will help. Grealish has replaced Winks in England squad. Should have been in before Winks. Dead wood out , players dont have to be foreign to improve team. Players used to come from Scotland or lower leagues.

Mourinho is changing the make up of the squad, bringing in ‘aggressive’ players, which is a good thing. I mean, do opposition midfielders get scared by Winks or Davies? They might start throwing in some Scholes type challenges next season just to show everyone they are evolving in to Mourinho players. However, we are shopping in the wrong baskets because of our financial and Europa Lg limitations. We are undoubtedly improving the squad, but so are our top 4 competitors, with higher quality players. My only hope is they are unproven in the EPL and disrupt their squads and we up the quality of performance. It cannot get any worse, it has to improve. From the documentary, Mourinho knows we haven’t the quality (we keep losing possession), something we have known for some time. It might get to the stage where we are slating Mourinho, but he can only manage what he is given. He cannot legislate for players losing the ball like Sissoko and Aurier when he has instructed them to keep it. Maybe that is why we reverted to defending after lockdown and handed possession to the opposition!

I agree that we need talkers and leadership on the pitch and bringing a few in is a positive move without doubt.

The only concern I have is that all this is just shuffling the pieces around on the same budget as he did under Arry. It will help and it will change things up but at the end of the day, if your investment in the team isn’t in the same ball park as your rivals then you won’t really make any seismic shifts forward. This is the permanent problem with ENIC, lots of window dressing and very little ambition…

Jose is the new window dressing, towards the latter stages of his career and after being sacked by both Utd and Chavski. Not of course when he was sought by most big clubs around Europe but when he’s out of work.

Levy is a cheapskate pretending to look like he’s brought in the ‘best’, 10 years too late slap-head…

I think Kane stays, there is enough reason for him believe they can win something. Jose clearly shows he is going to give it his all to win things for the club. Jose has come through a bad patch quite well, with much needed help from Covid19.

Besides, where will Kane go to? The future don’t look to bright at some of the “so called” bigger clubs. We are at a point of becoming a great club if everything works out as planned. COYS!!!

Kane WILL stay beyond his season, I’m 100% convinced of it & will begrudgingly wear a West Ham shirt & not leave the house for a day if he doesn’t! (You can GFY if you’d expect I’d ever put an Arse’ one on!)
The club/squad are seemingly in a positive place, changing their mindset & responding to José’s wants, demands & tactics, despite all the JM haters thinking otherwise.
All the doom-mongers & naysayers can diss me & get all unnecessary as much as you like, Think I’ll just be busy cracking the eggs for your boat race.

Ballon D’or winners don’t generally cost under £20m and come from Southampton and Wolves either. They generally play in teams surrounded by quality.

Ballon dor though is the best player in the world… When Liverpool have only ever had one and United have had four.. That’s the hardest trophy to win and its all about votes… We have to start winning, we have to bring in the right players and get rid of some. A striker and a left back and maybe a centre back and centre mid needed to come in.. Numerous deadwood has to go… It could go either way with kane.

The bit in where Poch arrives to watch an NFL game is utterly cringeworthy, Levy goes;

“Hi how are you doing? Nice jumper, is that cashmere?” To which Poch, slightly bemused replies “er…yes, ees cashmere no?”

It’s the most pathetic attempt at ‘small talk’ between ‘mates’ for the cameras I’ve ever seen. This documentary was intended by Levy to showcase he new stadium, impress the NFL and possibly restore his reputation with the fans and the world at large.

It’s done nothing of the sort and Levy won’t be winning any Oscars anytime soon, neither will Jose for that matter. The only two that come out of this with any credit are a few of the players (mainly Kane) and the bits of Poch at the start, who are clearly not on board with all the pretending stuff…

Did anyone find his chats with Dele, Kane or Dier inspiring? Let’s hope they were just 100% for the cameras, otherwise we’re all in trouble!

Let’s home Jose can now get on with being ‘him’ because the ‘him’ I see in this comes across as a world weary old war horse, almost ready to be put out to pasture…

Had enough of Levy’s small time football vision. The boy wants the big time and Levy’s already rubbing his hands together thinking of what extra fixtures and fittings he can buy for the new stadium with the money…

Levy’s chance with Kane has gone, one season with Jose might get him a domestic Cup or the Ropey. But the chance to win something big like the league and the Champions League came closest during Pochettino’s time. To win big stuff the owners need to see the thing through, by strengthening in key areas, just ask Klopp.

The ONLY reason why we didn’t win anything under Poch was because Levy either didn’t have the balls for it or didn’t care, a bit of both I suspect.

Of course it’s ‘difficult’ to strengthen the team but it’s made even more difficult when you refuse to pay the going rate in wages and when your net spend over five seasons is 17th highest in the league.

It’s these things that give Levy a feeling of pride, not trophies. Levy expects blood out of everyone else but from himself? He doesn’t even break a sweat…

What player at Spurs has ever come within a light year of the ballon d’or? Kane will be away, come the end of the new season, if he’s at all serious about reaching those heights.

I think Kane will stay at least another season if he sees that the gaping holes n the squad are being filled with players of the right mental attitude and the time-wasters are being moved on. Sounds like he wants to stay and work with Mourinho because nothing concrete has emerged suggesting a club or clubs are in for him, other than the tabloid rumour-mongering/ de-stabilisation chatter. Never say never though.

I hope we have enough success that he stays, but if we don’t I hope he goes somewhere that gives him the success he richly deserves. He’s been a hell of a player for us.

Guess this also shows why José is buying experienced leaders and talkers on the pitch – we need a few more like Kane holding teammates to account.

Hopefully we have a great season and he stays, it’s possible. It’s still a squad that made the CL final now with some of the holes filled in (please let’s hope we now have a central midfield Etc)
