Tottenham Hotspur’s left-back, Ryan Sessegnon, is facing an uncertain future at the club, as reported by journalist Alasdair Gold.
Sessegnon’s move to Spurs from Fulham for a hefty fee of £25 million has not panned out as expected.
Struggling to secure a regular place in the starting lineup, Sessegnon has faced challenges under various managers.
Under Antonio Conte, the full-back role was replaced by a wing-back and Ivan Perisic was the preferred option for the Italian.
In addition to the lack of playing time, Sessegnon has been plagued by injuries, further hindering his progress.
These setbacks have raised doubts about his long-term prospects at the club.
Alasdair Gold expressed skepticism about Sessegnon’s future, suggesting that a move away from Tottenham might be necessary for him to gain regular playing time.
Gold pointed out the presence of other left-back options at the club, such as Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie, and even mentioned the potential signing of Micky Van de Ven, who can also occupy the left-back position.
Speaking about the 23-year-old’s situation at Spurs, Gold said:
“I also have my doubts about whether Ryan Sessegnon will be at Spurs at the start of next season.
“I’m starting to get more and more of a feeling there that maybe he needs to head off and get some regular football.
“I wonder whether with [Ben] Davies and [Destiny] Udogie, you’ve got that left side covered.
“And let’s say if they were to get a certain Micky Van de Ven, he can also play as a left-back.
“I would imagine in that scenario, Sess is allowed to look for another club.
“It’s maybe that he’s on the list of players that don’t go on the tour.”
However, Sessegnon’s chances of a transfer during this window may be turned slim due to recent developments.
It has been reported that he has undergone surgery, which is expected to keep him out of action until September.
As a result, interested clubs are likely to end their pursuit of Sessegnon for the time being.
The road ahead looks challenging for the 23-year-old left-back as he recovers from surgery.
Sessegnon will have to prove his worth and fight for his place at Tottenham Hotspur if he wishes to revive his career at the club.
Otherwise, a move to another club might be on the cards in the near future.
