Garth Crooks hails “serious, no-nonsense” Tottenham star

By Bruce Grove -

Garth Crooks has hailed Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for his fine performances for the club.

The Danish midfielder has been an influential player at the Tottenham Stadium since he joined Spurs.

He has been almost irreplaceable to the managers he has worked with and scored the first Premier League goal of the Antonio Conte era against Leeds United.

His overall performance in the game was impressive and it earned him a place in Crooks’ Team of the Week.

While naming him, the former Tottenham man adds via the BBC: “We were not that long into the game when it was becoming glaringly obvious to me that Spurs were out of their depth against a Leeds side who were far more disciplined and tactically aware.

“I don’t for one minute doubt Antonio Conte’s credentials and if you had read the Crooks of Matter recently, you would know why. The issue is Conte has an enormous amount of work to do at Spurs.

“However, he could do much worse than start building his team around the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Denmark international is a serious, no-nonsense individual who appears to have all the characteristics Conte admires. The Italian manager’s passion for the game and will to win is compelling. It will take some time before Spurs can match that and that’s why he needs time.”

The Boy Hotspur Says

Hojbjerg has looked the part since he moved to Spurs and he is one of the biggest names at the club right now.

Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo found him valuable and he is already proving his worth under Conte.

Hojbjerg shows a passion and attitude that has been sadly missing among many of the Tottenham players, hopefully, that will now change under the new management.

You might see Dier wears the armband before Hobby does. There is something about Dier that is not visible to the martial man. How else he gets so much changes by manager and respect from his peers.

Bielsa is going to ruin players career before he changes his stubborn ways. Pochettino is one of his main puples and although they both technically gifted holding onto principles over nuances is what did Poch in at Spurs. Conte went man to man and started pressing and instead of going to 2 holding mids to help out Phillips with the movement of Kane,Son and Moura out numbering them in the final third they could not deal. They begin to lose Kane and Son was popping up on either side of the field. Yes, they play hard and beautiful football, but it should not be at the expense of being at the bottom of league. I do not want to hear about the injuries that is part of the game. That has nothing to do with game management.

He is not the type to sulk but he must have wondered at times what was going on with his team mates (I mean BC obvs.)
I expect Conte cant wait for Lloris to leave so he can give him the Captain’s armband – I dont mean Lloris should leave I am basing it on reports that he wants a new GK.
