“For many, many reasons it’s not happened” Sky Pundit Believes Levy Could Still Get Top Dollar For This 26-year-old

By Joe Fish -

Many people scoffed at the £200m price tag Daniel Levy has supposedly put on the head of Harry Kane, including some of his adoring Tottenham fans.

But Sky Sports pundit Tony Cottee says that the 26-year-old striker is worth a world-record fee “all day long”, if we are forced into selling him, whether due to player or financial pressure. The report in the Daily Mail earlier this week claimed the club’s stadium and transfer debt is in excess of £700m, while Kane recently admitted in an Instagram Live interview with Jamie Redknapp that he’ll go elsewhere to fulfil his trophy ambitions if needs be.

Former Everton and West Ham United forward Cottee feels it is “inevitable” that Kane will leave Spurs and predicts it could happen next summer.

“I think there will come a time when he says ‘I’ve done as much as I can, I’ve scored lots of goals for Spurs but for many, many reasons it’s not happened’,” Cottee told Sky Sports. I think it’s inevitable, if it doesn’t happen in the next year or so, I think Harry will leave – probably next summer.”

He added: “We saw (Kylian) Mbappe and Neymar go for huge amounts of money. Is Harry Kane worth that? Yes he is, he’s a goalscorer.

“In the current market, if other players are worth what they paid for them, then Harry Kane, for me, is worth £200m all day long.”

Cottee’s opinion does not carry much weight on this platform, but it does serve as a reminder of how highly valued Kane is within the game, and that Levy’s price tag might not be as deluded as some Twitter experts think.

It will be a few years before Newcastle can push on if the Saudis get involved. They don’t have Ch Lg so top players won’t be interested until they do qualify. All they could attract is a bunch of mercenaries, looking for big money, but I know of few clubs that do well with that model. It took a few years for City to get their act together when Sheikh Mansour got involved so although NUFC will be a force with the oil money and I wish it was us rather than them, I don’t see them as an immediate threat. Spurs have bigger problems than the Geordies, like all the teams you mentioned. If Spurs can challenge top 4 next season with our current squad I’ll be amazed. One more club to challenge the top 4 will make the EPL more interesting for the worldwide audience, but Spurs have already fallen behind 6-7 at the moment. That’s the sad indictment of our situation. We have to rebuild now because Moura, Winks, Sissoko,Aurier, Dier and Davies cannot be the future of a successful Spurs team. Kane, Dele and Son are our only bargaining chips. The team in 3 years time could quite easily have none of the current crop in it. I can’t make my mind up whether this is exciting or terrifying.

Levy messed up the Bale void but we pushed on. Granted we had better players at that time than what we currently have. With correct planning I don’t think the loss would be as bad as you suggest. Whenever Kane was injured under Poch our record was good and that was without a proper CF. If we were to sell Kane and Levy messed up the transfers then it would be a time to worry. Back to the days of Gary Doherty up top!

He’s going only question is when, seriously does anybody believe Spurs are going to win anything next season? All this talk of Levy telling Mourinho that the ten bob that was in the transfer kitty is now gone isn’t going to inspire Harry or any other players that there’ll be jam on the sandwiches. Another thing that won’t help is if Newcastle are sold to a Saudi group who are as free with their oil money as Man City were then our scrap for fourth place just got a lot harder because we’re not overtaking City, Liverpool or Chelsea anytime soon. We also have to contend with clubs that do spend money like Leicester, Wolverhampton, Everton. And before anyone tells me that Financial Fair Play rules will stop Newcastle spending over their income, those rules are temporarily suspended and besides with money in short supply the powers that be will turn a blind eye.

Kane is ambitious, Levy isn’t and ENIC aren’t when it comes to football.

A parting of ways is inevitable at some point…

ENIC OUT.

Figures like Harry don’t come around often enough to just shrug at the idea of him leaving. He is by far the best spurs goalscorer since jimmy greaves, on course to be the best in PL history, an actual spurs fan, local boy, captain of England. The void he would leave could not realistically be filled.

If he did go, iit would just confirm this 1 2 Billion stadium has changed nothing in any meaningful sense, other than enabling levy to fcuk up the club’s best side in the colour TV era.

Unfortunately that does not bode well for Kane’s future. Is he destined to be like Shearer who wouldn’t leave newcastle for Utd.and finished the rest of his career winning nothing?

Cottee is wrong to compare Kane with Neymar and Mbappe. The Frenchman is much younger than Kane and already has an impressive trophy collection.
Kane will be 29 this summer, with a well documented injury record and the transfer market will be so different when football finally recommences.
Also Neymar was only 25 when he went to PSG for the then transfer record. He is also a multiple trophy winner.
Good as he has been for Spurs his exploits sadly haven’t resulted in any silverware for him or the club.
My only reservations about him being sold are that Levy will use any excuse, particularly the debt he landed us with,to not invest the money back into the squad. No CL football for a few seasons won’t look too good at the shopping mall.

Tony Cottee is as useless a football pundit as most ex pros. Kane is 27 in July with a long injury record. If he doesn’t leave this summer, it will be difficult for Levy to get a good price as his sell on value will be nothing. Real Madrid’s profile is to sign younger players and Barcelona are practically bankrupt. That doesn’t leave many options except for the two Manchester clubs and possibly Juventus. Then of course, any buyer will have the pleasure of conducting negotiations with our beloved chairman which is akin to having a colonoscopy without a sedative.
