Five pundits made predictions before the season started – they got Tottenham very wrong

By Bruce Grove -

The beginning of the season seems so long ago now, not because of the time element but because at that time pundits, fans and probably Tottenham themselves all had very high hopes that this season would be a success for Spurs. That seems so far away now.

It is safe to say that the general consensus was that the title would be fought out by Man City and Liverpool, that seemed fairly obvious and another seemingly obvious scenario was that Tottenham would finish third, in fact, five pundits, Graeme Souness, Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Martin Keown only agreed on one finishing spot and that was Tottenham in third, as highlighted in the Sun.

The fact that so many pundits could only agree unanimously on one spot and that was Tottenham’s finishing position does go to show how disappointing the season has been.

Everything was in place for Spurs to at least finish third but for a variety of reasons the wheels came off very early and in all fairness, at no stage did they really look like confirming the predictions of the five pundits.

One thing is for sure, none of these pundits is likely to predict Tottenham finishing third next season.

Probably a good thing as it means the pressure is unlikely to be as intense as it was last August and who knows how well the lads will perform next season when not so much is expected of them.

Though, with Jose Mourinho in charge, I suppose there will always be pressure and high expectations.
