Tottenham have announced the reversal of their decision to use the government furlough scheme during the Covid-19 lockdown.
BREAKING: ENIC U-Turn As Non-Playing Staff Will Now Be Paid In Full
We were the first Premier League club to lay off non-playing staff, around 550 of them on March 31, and sign up to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. The decision not to top up the government’s 80% contribution to ensure that employeers were not out of pocket was heavily criticised, with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust leading the protests.
Fans on Twitter applauded each other for ‘putting the pressure on’.
(Cue the jokes from any opposition fans stumbling onto this blog).
Faith in my club restored, well done lads

🤝 Massive shoutout to the @THSTOfficial for their relentless work and for making our voices heard which would have contributed to this reversal. pic.twitter.com/xRImfTri63

Levy listening to the fans reaction. The world really has gone mad! About time!

damage has been done though, no? Very disappointed in our club for having this stance for so long, despite paying millions to chairman. I’ve never been totally anti-Levy but I’m almost there now. Credit for reversing the decision though and credit to @THSTOfficial

The fans made this happen.

While of course the club have come to the right decision, in reality the THST has carried no more weight here than it ever has in the eyes of the board.
All of the pressure came from the mainstream media. Harry Hotspur sources understands Joe Lewis made the call to Daniel Levy to undo the PR mess days ago, but money had to be moved around before going public.

This decision will not change the opinions of the majority of fans, the wider public , or even the media, t’s a stain that wont come out.
ENIC are such a bunch of snakes, with zero credibility.
It takes the fans, the same fans who bought season tickets in good faith, put up with Wembley for a season longer than they were told. The same fans with one League Cup in 20 years to celebrate to TELL our owners to pay the staff?!!
You couldn’t make it up, we are owned by €unts…
ENIC OUT.
True the headlines in The New York Times, The Telegraph, Times and Guardian and TV put the club in an uncomfortable spotlight but they all picked up on the anger of the fans. Yes Levy doesn’t care a toss for what the ordinary fan thinks, but at least the majority knew right from wrong and plenty made that clear.
When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.
