Fabrizio Romano is one of the most famous and trusted football journalists in the world, widely regarded as the go-to source for transfer news. He started his career very young — breaking into the industry as a teenager with his first big scoop around 2011 (Mauro Icardi’s move). He joined Sky Sport Italy at just 19 years old and quickly built an enormous network of agents, clubs, and insiders across Europe.

Now, on his YouTube channel, the journalist has spoken exclusively about the current situation at Tottenham.

“Tottenham tried to show support for Thomas Frank by appointing John Heitinga as a new part of the backroom staff during the week, but then over the weekend, Tottenham lose again. Now the situation is very, very complicated for Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

His job is at serious risk. Let’s see what happens in the next hours and days but the situation of Thomas Frank at Tottenham is not safe at this stage. They could change the manager, let’s see if it’s now or if they will give him opportunity to try and turn the situation but the situation is very tense for Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

Thomas Frank is fighting to keep his job at Tottenham but the club will decide very soon, internal talks are taking place. The situation of Thomas Frank is in danger. His job at Tottenham is not safe.”

Key points from Romano’s comments include:

Tottenham attempted to show support for Frank earlier in the week by appointing John Heitinga (former Arne Slot assistant) to the backroom staff. However, the subsequent loss intensified pressure, with fans turning decisively against him (evident from stadium reactions and social media).

Internal talks are ongoing, and the club could decide to change manager in the next hours or days — it’s unclear if they’ll sack him immediately or give him more time to turn things around.
Romano emphasized: “Thomas Frank is fighting to keep his job at Tottenham, but the club will decide very soon… the situation of Thomas Frank is in danger.”

This comes amid a poor run of form for Spurs under Frank (who joined from Brentford in the summer of 2025, replacing Ange Postecoglou), with criticism over uninspiring play, poor results, and falling into the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Earlier in January 2026, Romano shared more positive or neutral updates from Frank himself, such as: Confirmation of Heitinga’s appointment to the staff (January 15).

The West Ham loss appears to have shifted everything dramatically, with widespread reports echoing Romano’s view that a decision is imminent. Surely, it feels as if hope is just around the corner.
