Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move for Piero Hincapie and are expected to hold talks in the summer about bringing the centre-back to north London.
According to Sky Sports, Spurs are looking bring in two new signings this month with a right wing-back and an attacker believed to be the priority for Conte.
Additionally, it is believed that Tottenham Hotspur will aim to acquire not just one, but two new center-backs during the summer transfer window, with Clement Lenglet’s loan not expected to be extended.
And while they have been linked with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, another player they have been heavily linked with for the last couple of weeks is Bayer Levekusen defender Piero Hincapie.
And now Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Spurs’ interest in the Ecuadorian. Speaking on the latest Here We Go podcast, he claimed that Spurs are looking for a headstart in their summer transfer business with the defender being one of the targets. He said:
“Also wanted to add on Tottenham that they will have some talks also for Piero Hincapie. The centre-back of Bayer Leverkusen, Ecuadorian player, very good player also appreciated by Italian clubs.
“But Tottenham will have some conversation now with the idea of signing him in the summer. So Hincapie is also on Tottenham’s list.”
Despite Tottenham’s interest in the 21-year-old Hincapie, they are not the only team after him, as Napoli, the current leaders of Serie A, are also reported to be keen on signing the center-back.
The centre-back represented Ecuador during the recent World Cup and played every second of their three games in the group stages. The young star is highly rated in the Bundesliga and has been dubbed as a “defensive sensation” by journalist Ryan Taylor.
That being said, Antonio Conte might prefer to go for at least one world-class centre-back who would make an immediate impact to improve the team rather than a player with great potential for the future.
