“Expected to leave” – Romano confirms several Premier League clubs are eying a move for Spurs defender; race remains open

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham fullback Sergio Reguilon had his loan move terminated by Manchester United earlier today.

The club had a break clause in his loan deal which they triggered resulting in his season long loan move to be terminated in the January transfer window.

United signed him as an emergency backup after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. He provided decent cover for them during their absence making 12 appearances in all competitions. But with Luke Shaw back, he is finding it hard to get regular playing time, resulting in the club making the decision to cut short his stay.

He is now set to return to Spurs but according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the player does not intend to stay at the club in January and is going to seek a move away in hunt for regular playing time.

Romano shared the update on X:

Sergio Reguilón, expected to leave Spurs again during the January transfer window as he wants to play regularly.

Loan options being considered; there’s interest from Premier League clubs after Borussia Dortmund added him to their list in December. Race remains open.

Borussia Dortmund have recently shown interest in Reguilon, along with Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.

A recent report from the Italian outlet Il Romanista suggests that Jose Mourinho has ‘given his approval’ for the club to pursue Reguilon as a replacement for Leonardo Spinazzola, whose contract concludes at the end of the season.

Romano also reports that several Premier League clubs have expressed interest in acquiring him. Where he ultimately lands remains to be seen.
