‘Don’t be surprised’ – Sky Sports Journalist says Spurs could yet go for £40M+ man

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur has been one of the more active clubs this summer, adding various players to fill needs on the squad. One of the additions was to the midfield with the arrival of Yves Bissouma, but one journalist states that Youri Tielemans could be another addition to the group.

In an interview with Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin, Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge states that Spurs could take another look at the Leicester City midfielder later in the summer transfer window.

Despite the names connected to Tielemans, Bridge would not rule out Spurs revisiting their interest further down the line if he is still available on the market. The possible addition of the 25-year-old would give manager Antonio Conte plenty of options in the midfield.

“I know that in the past, they liked Youri Tielemans, and I know there was talk about going to Arsenal, but don’t be surprised if they have another look at him later in the window down the line,” Bridge said

Leicester City will likely sell the Belgium international this window with only one year left on his deal. The Foxes want to recoup a fee for Tielemans – who joined the Foxes for a reported £40million fee – and is now linked to various clubs.

BBC say Arsenal now ‘winning the race’. Just gossip, not actual journalism.

Time will tell….

I dont think any club is going to pay more than 25-30 million for someone of his status/calibre whose available on a free in 12 months time. If we moved on Winks, Lo Celso & Tanguy even if we covered half of his wages we should take a look.. but only if he costs around the same as Bissouma.

Rightly or wrongly I keep seeing that ball out of defence when (I think) it was 2-2.
Dreadful.

That table doesn’t really mean anything though. City were proven to have broken FFP rules only 3 or 4 seasons ago. They were found guilty and were banned for transfer activity for possibly 2 or 3 years. They miraculously had it overturned.. I bet they paid for that result too.. If you can break the rule and carry on with no punishment then the rule ceases to exist..

We won’t be spending 250 million now without selling players first.
Until the years finances are released we don’t know what exactly is available. There are loan repayments to pay as well as transfer business. Everything will be dependent on the income.
Getting Champions league will help boost our funds. Also getting rid of Ndombelly would help.

It would be poetry for us to meet Manure in a final now… Tintin the magician to start, followed by his special routine. The extraordinary vanishing act.

There is a table showing what each PL club can spend according to FFP and Everton were over the limit hence why they wanted Richarlison tied up so early and all money. They have spent all they can without some way of increasing revenue (like sales, Richarlison etc).

Spurs were at the other end, we could spend it all in one window, like net spend £250 million – but you have to make sure you get it right. Everton spent extremely badly and have next to no one to sell for a big fee.

Grealish is NOT a striker.

But one is 50-60m & one is 100m, both play in the same postion, or am I wrong.

You’re judging Richarlison on goals, lets judge Grealish on goals, or world you take Grealish for 100m?
I honestly think we dodged a bullet, even at 20m, as it was then.
To miss out on Son’s goals to have him play on the other side, like is being done to Sterling.

One is more limited than the other. One is so overrated.

Tintin to Manure is brilliant – could not agree more, absolute time waster and I hope it ends in tears!

Not sure who called them Juve rejects – same invisible folk that called Harry Kane a one season wonder?

Grealish and Richarlison are totally different players, mate…

Tielemans still has another year left on his contract. He signed a four year deal in 2019… Yet right now the mainstream media are all reporting he’s agreed personal terms with Arsenal! Who aren’t allowed to talk to him for another 6 months.. Lol.. Unless a fee has been agreed and they’ve given permission to talk..

Tintin to Manure is brilliant. I hope Brentford finish above them this year..
Manure also bid for Stevie Burgers, but he preferred Ajax.. Lol.

So how many players do score a lot of goals in teams that almost get relegated?

Juve rejects didn’t turn out too bad, did they?

Richarlison will prove to be a very good signing.
He played on the left for Watford, on the right for Everton & works 100% in every game Ive ever seen him.
For his country at top level his output is very decent.

Grealish cost 100m & only plays on the right, thats pretty limited.
I would take Richarlison over grealish everyday of the week.

Leicester desperately want to keep him & sign him on, he’s run his contract down & is now free.

I imagine hes waiting on us to see if he goes elsewhere with no Champions League.

…..as you say, the cost of not making Top 4 will be a painful one, for some.

We say no to Eriksen & he’s forced to accept Man.u & hope for Champions League next year.

There is no FFP mate. City have proved that.

Everton are a joke, since Klopp took over Anfield they’ve spent 680 million. Before this window that’s 10 million less than Liverpool. And they nearly got relegated…
FFP hasn’t really affected them, their relatively new owners are minted. They haven’t wound up in court like City was.. They’ve just wasted extortionate amounts of money on sub par players.

Good player, but we don’t need him.. If Leicester are willing to sell then it will be more than 40million because that’s what they paid for him and he’s been one of their best players.
While we are looking at our 5th and 6th signings take a peek at Manure. Yet to make a single signing and Ronald wants out.. How the mighty have fallen..

So lets be honest , the wee man has spent like he said he would , the signings made does make you feel better surely ?
Now if we can retrieve a little cash from a whole host of players ready for sale , then surely there wont be a whole lot of expenditure overall.
On my reckoning , we still have one MARQUEE to come , please God let it be a play maker extraordinaire , this is all bloody exciting ……………………………… C O Y S !!!!!!!!!!

It’s not being cynical when you think back over our chaotic transfer windows. It’s being realistic about expectations.

We’ve seen all this before. However a low net spend should not preclude buying in the January window.

The problem with Torres is if a number pf bigger clubs start to show serious intent then Levy will not get involved and risk a bidding war.

The worrying thing about getting our deadwood out the door is that there appears to be little or no interest in these players apart perhaps for Winks and Bergy.Maybe as time passes that will change.

If we genuinely strengthen the squad to the amount needed (or demanded by Conte) with no net spend then great – can spend another window.

Everton show you can’t just spend spend spend…you hit the FFP wall.

I do now think the main idea with the funds was to allow the club to spend big without selling first (something which has near ruined every window for us recently). If we can spend £120 mill (we’re already at about £100 mill) then recoup £80 mill through sales that’s just good business both sides.

No real need for Tielemans unless Hjolberg is moved on.

Priority should be a top class CB and at least one full-back. Torres would be my pick for the LCB position (rather than Lenglet). Spence is a highly promising RB, and helps the quota for UK players. If it wasn’t for this, I’d plump for Kostic.

I’m also not adverse to Lingard either, purely as he would be an upgrade on Lucas, and he seemed to recover his mojo at WHam.

Bring in Torres/Spence/Lingard and I think we have most bases covered.

My fear is that when you look at the actual net spend at the end of the window, it may be a lot closer to £0 than is being portayed, as most of the deals are feebies/loans and cut-price bargains (Bissouma – which granted is a steal). Once the likes of Winks, Bergy, Lo Celso, Rodon, etc, are sold, it’ll be interesting to see exactly how much real money from that £150M has actually been spent above and beyond what has been raised from sales.

Perhaps it’s just the cynic in me…

Great video H, I also had noticed Lenglet had very strong passing stats and I did say on a previous blog regarding Rodon…is he the type of defender Conte wants? Is he silky on the ball and a cultured passer of the ball? Not convinced, though he hasn’t been given a lot of minutes. I think this signing shows what Conte values anyway – complete footballers at the back who can bring the ball forward and pick out a teammate consistently. Whether he’s as good heading out cross after cross or getting stuck in on a cold night in Bolton who knows, but Conte clearly has his ethos for our defence.

With regards to Richarlison I don’t think many people have seen it as an orgasmic signing, especially as a record signing, but the telling stats are his chasing down and tackling for a forward and I definitely think that’s a huge appeal to Conte. He’s tough, he’ll get stuck in and be a real thorn in the side for opposition defenders. Think Doherty came out and said he’s one of the forwards you most dread facing, though that could just be ego massaging the new boy. He does need to score more goals though, hopefully he’s more clinical than the stats paint out when feeding off assists from Kane and the rest.
