“Done deal” Romano confirms latest Tottenham signing

By Bruce Grove -

It is transfer deadline day and already Tottenham has completed a transfer according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs have signed Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal for a fee of €30m including add ons. An official announcement will be made later this afternoon and the deal runs until June 2026.

This acquisition must surely spell the end for Serge Aurier and it is very likely that he will be jettisoned at some point today.

It is also unlikely that this is the last piece of business done by the club in this transfer window. You can expect some more incoming and outgoings and probably right up until the last minute of the transfer window.

Royal is highly regarded, however, he never made a breakthrough at Barcelona and spent most of his time in La Liga with Real Betis, it is always a little concern when players are rejected by elite clubs but that does not mean he will not be a success in north London.

And by the way, just because Arsenal are a hopeless rabble does not mean we are automatically doing any better ourselves. Forget about them, stop thinking small…

We’ve needed a decent right back for about three years, typically under Levy these things that need addressing are like glacial movement that take years and not months. By which time you have more things that need fixing, and on it goes.

If Tangy is unable to integrate then we must look to loan him back to France or something and bring in an experienced playmaker for the present. Citeh, Liverpool, Chelsea and Utd will be stronger this season.

Unless Levy steps it up and does things that benefit the team in the present then we have no chance of mixing it with the top 4 clubs. Then zero chance of keeping Kane beyond next summer…

Good deal. Aurier must be off then. I wonder if we’re selling Doherty too, or if he will be second choice, with Japhet playing CB.

Agree with Lilywhite – we’ll probably need another CB with Romero’s international duty shenanigans. I understand wishing to play for your country, but he just came into a new club unfit, hasn’t proven himself, and now he’s off and won’t be available for weeks after coming back. Ditto – to a certain extent – Lo Celso.

It won’t happen but we really need a creative midfielder…Also, you may as well right off Le Celso and Romero for 3 months, can’t believe the club has let this happen…
