Tottenham Hotspur kept their chances of stealing a result against Galatasaray alive as Dominic Solanke dispatched a wonderful back-heeled finish.

Spurs found themselves 3-1 down in Istanbul thanks to a Yunus Akgun screamer and a Victor Osimhen brace, cancelling out Will Lankshear’s first-ever senior goal.

Things got even worse for the visitors when Lankshear was shown a red card on the hour mark, picking up a second yellow after taking a swipe at the legs of Gabriel Sara.

Bizarrely, Spurs improved after going down to 10 men, with the introductions of Pape Sarr and Solanke offering more balance and composure.

And it was Solanke who gave the Lilywhites hope in the 69th minute, getting in front of his defender to flick home a precision cross from Spanish full-back Pedro Porro.

‘Lovely’ Dominic Solanke finish gives Spurs hope

Solanke’s goal drew praise from Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle, who was watching on in Istanbul as a commentator for TNT Sports.

“A lovely little finish,” said Hoddle (via BBC Sport).

“Dominic Solanke with a clever little back flick, he is in a confident mood. You sense Galatasaray have switched off.”

Solanke’s strike takes the England international to six goals in 14 appearances across all competitions since joining Tottenham from Bournemouth in the summer.
