Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.
The 53-year-old’s contract with Tottenham expires in the summer and the London club has not agreed on an extension with him yet. However, they do retain an option to extend his deal for another year.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham are prepared to let the Italian leave the club at the end of the season.
Conte has been linked with the return to Italy and it will be interesting to see what he decides.
Former Tottenham defender Danny Rose has now weighed in on the situation.
Rose believes that Tottenham should do everything in their power to hold on to Antonio Conte and he would be delighted if the Italian decided to commit his long-term future to Tottenham.
However, he added that if Conte decides to move on, Spurs should do their best to bring Mauricio Pochettino back to the club.
Rose said: “For me as an outsider looking in Conte being a manager of your football club on paper that’s amazing. For me I would love him to stay but I’m not privy to what is going on with Spurs at the moment on the first-team side.
“But for me as an outsider looking in I’d be over the moon if Conte could stay as Tottenham manager. But if Mauricio Pochettino could be tempted to come back then I’d be saying do everything you can to get him back.
“You sort of see and hear things that Conte says about being able to compete with the bigger teams, which is right, you have to spend quite a bit of money and out of the bigger teams Tottenham might not do that as much as the others, so you have to understand his frustrations.
“But I still believe he’s an unbelievable manager but if there’s anybody who can deliver success for Tottenham without spending as much as everyone else, it’s Conte. So for me I’d be over the moon if he stayed and if he was to move on I’d be over the moon if Spurs went and got Mauricio again.”
The 50-year-old is currently out of a job after leaving Paris Saint-Germain and he has been linked with a return to Tottenham for months now.
Pochettino knows the club well and has a bond with the fans. He could be a quality replacement for Conte next season. The Argentine manager did an exceptional job at Spurs before he was relieved of his duties and he helped him challenge for the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League trophy.
Spurs have a talented squad at their disposal and Pochettino could help them compete for major trophies once again.
