Di Marzio: Negotiations suddenly ‘reopened’ after transfer looked to have been abandoned

By Mehdi Gokal -

Gianluca Di Marzio has provided an update on the transfer situation of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, stating that talks have resumed between Lloris and Serie A side Lazio.

The Italian journalist revealed on his website that negotiations have been ‘reopened’ after fresh contact between the two parties.

Earlier reports had indicated that Lazio president Claudio Lotito was keen on signing Lloris and was determined to complete the transfer.

Alfredo Pedulla had also reported that Lotito was committed to pursuing the deal. The decision now appears to be in Lloris’s hands, and if he agrees to the terms without additional demands, the transfer could be finalized soon.

Although a move to Lazio had seemed to be have collapsed at one point due to Lloris’s hesitancy about not being a guaranteed first-choice goalkeeper as reported by L’Equipe, the latest developments suggest that a potential move is back on the table.

Lloris’ departure from Tottenham was previously confirmed by manager Ange Postecoglou, after the Frenchman was not included in the pre-season preparations, indicating his imminent exit. The player has also confirmed his desire to leave the club early in the summer.

He has been linked with several clubs over the summer, including Al-Hilal, Nice, PSG, Inter Milan, and now Lazio, as he seeks a new chapter in his career.

Tottenham have already signed Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli as a replacement for Lloris who put in a solid performance against Manchester United on Saturday.

Lloris’ potential move to Lazio would mark the end of his long tenure at Tottenham and open a new chapter in his career with the Italian club.
