Darren Bent’s Goalscoring Video Legacy At Spurs: Purists please look away now…

By Joe Fish -

Earlier this week we brought you Roman Pavlyuchenko’s Tottenham goals compilation; a triumph of quality over quantity.

MORE: A Scorer Of Great Goals; Not A Great Goalscorer – The Super Pav Collection

Now prepare yourselves for something quite different.

Darren Bent’s Spurs career isn’t remembered too fondly; lost in the orgasmic shuffle of Berbatov, Keane, Defoe and…Bent, who played his last game for Tottenham 11 years ago today.

But his goal record was not as bad as you might think – 25 in 75 appearances, of which 36 were as a substitute. He’s a 1 in 3 man. Defoe and Keane were 1 in 2.5, Pav a 1 in 2.7 guy. So Bent was not far behind and yet is not remembered with a fraction of the same affection.

And that might be because all of the goals he scored for Spurs were scrappy tap-ins, rebounds and deflections, as the below montage shows…

Proper striker’s goals; but a more boring collection you couldn’t wish to see!

Not so sure about the best.. Defoe crouchy keane, van der vaart, we were stronger than pav up top… I think his attitude was a bit ‘me me’ from the start, he was storming off like a brat after being subbed. Not a team player… After he forced his move back to russia he scored about 17 goals in 80 games in a poor quality league.. So he can’t have been that good. Harry wanted a better striker than pav, and was given an aging louis saha who hadnt scored for everton for 2 years.

Bent was extremely underated. At charlton and sunderland he was a 1 goal in 2 games striker.. Or 1 in 1.8 ratio.. His time with us was seen as a nightmare because he was better than 1.3… Some players need a run of games and confidence, being a sub constantly and playing 1 week and then sitting out for 2 weeks is tough if one isn’t strong. Tough to get consistency when not playing.. Then when the chance comes there is extra pressure.. He never got going with us.

Nothing to say about him, I never got the chance to talk about Pav, so I’ll do it here, the man was unfortunate enough to have to work with a manager who couldn’t or should I say didn’t want, to manage him, simple as that. One of the best strikers ever to wear a Spurs shirt and wasted by Arry.
