Open the book of Football Clichés (although not the actual one by Adam Hurrey) and on page one you’ll find: ‘A scorer of great goals; not a great goal scorer’.
Perhaps nobody has encapsulated this more in modern Spurs times than Roman Pavlyuchenko, who relegated Birmingham City from the Premier League on this day nine years ago with two of his trademark thrikers.
Remember that brilliant brace and the rest of Super Pav’s super goals for Tottenham by watching the video below.

Great song, SuperPav was hard done by for sure.
I liked him too,but he was unlucky to be considered the number four striker behind three Brits. As you say his record was very good, but for some reason Redknapp wouldn’t trust him even when he scored important goals and was certainly more prolific than Crouch.I felt he was hard done by.
I absolutely loved Pav. I always wanted to know his reaction to Redschnapps shouting for him to run a about a fkin bit.
I would say he was both. He had the best goalscoring ratio of any striker at the club in the time he was there and had also ripped it up on the big stage in the Euros. Could never understand why Crouch, in particular, kept being selected ahead of him with 3 league goals in two years.
