Daniel Levy warned he risks missing out on Mourinho target if he does not cough up the money

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham risk missing out on the signing of Southampton’s Pierre Emile Hojbjerg after his manager sent a warning to his suitors.

The Dane has told the Saints that he wishes to leave them for a bigger team in the summer and he won’t be extending his contract with them.

Tottenham has emerged as his preferred destination, but they are being rivalled for his signature by Everton.

The Lilywhites are struggling to meet Southampton’s asking price with Daniel Levy typically looking to drive a hard bargain.

Southampton’s manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl, has, however, sent a warning to the Lilywhites and his other suitors that the midfielder will stay with them and leave on a free transfer after next season if no team meets their asking price.

He made this known via Sky Sports after his team’s final game of the season against Sheffield United.

“He has one more year on his contract, for me one more year means a lot in football,” Hasenhuttl said as quoted by HITC.

“If there is no club that pays us what we want for him, then he will stay with us for another year, no problem.”

Jose Mourinho sees Hojbjerg as a player that will make his team better in midfield (Express), and as he looks to help the Lilywhites win the Europa League, he will hope that he can land the former Bayern Munich man.

Spurs have sold Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen within the last two seasons and they are yet to adequately replace both players, Hojbjerg might plug the holes left by those departures.

But with Levy doing the negotiations, well, no need to say any more is there?

Agreed. It’s a shame we can’t keep him and loan him again. He has more potential than what Danny Rose had ,and he turned out ok (ignoring his mouth) once he was loaned to Sunderland. KWP’s development was stunted by Poch not putting him in League 1 or the Championship when he was 20. Jack Roles is two years younger and has played more games than KWP. To me, that’s not right. KWP should have 70-90 games under his belt by now, but he’s nowhere near.

Fair comment, but those players you mention have been given a fair run of games to acclimatise, whereas KWP has had very limited opportunities. At the least he could be a pawn in the Hoijberg transfer if it ever happens.

PSG offered more for Foyth than what we paid but he wanted to play for Spurs and Poch.

I’m not a big fan of foyth. Watched a bit of him at right back for his country once and he looked pretty good though. He’s got heavy feet. Heavier than Kane’s.

No please no, Foyth has two left feet and is an accident waiting to happen. We only ended up with Foyth and Lo Celso because they’re Argentinian. Nobody else was in for them.

They do because the lad can play, I just think he should have developed more through our world class training facility and sport science expertise!

Yeah, but they should have learned to adapt by the age of 23. Not many Prem players are breezed past anymore. KWP is playing catch up, which is ok if we have 2 years to do it. He has been too lightweight and too nice. Look at Williams at Utd and Greenwood. Their physical conditioning is much better than his, even Reece James of Chelsea and they are all 3 years younger. Even Skipp looks like he needs a good meal. Ndombele probably steals his!

He does seem to be more ruthless when it comes to youth – he’s very cut and dried isn’t he? Tanganga and Skipp are in KWP is out. I’m interested to see what happens with Cirkin.

Most except the top FBs suffer against top pace. He’s young enough to learn, maybe get a bit nasty,it’s just a question of whether Jose wants him.

Ok fair enough. I wasn’t aware of these details. Still, says something that despite this, Saints fans still love him.

Who is better, Capoue or Hojbjerg? I’d rather have the former, but he didn’t work out. He wasn’t to a standard when he first came, but we were a different team.

Exactly, an upgrade on Winks is hardly going to take us to the next level.

I know what you’re saying but Martial walked past the lad in the Utd game to score. Rashford had him his his pocket too, so that tells you he struggles against top pace. KWP has a lot to learn and he should have learned it by now. He wasn’t loaned though and so I think his development is behind most his age.

Yes we should, but Jose doesn’t care about future players, they either ready now or need to be sold for money.

Maybe leave him out there for another season. He’ll be ready for Tottenham soon enough. He’s played in three different country’s at 21. I’m proud of him.

Can you see him getting on with Jose who demands even the attacking players have defensive duties, has he matured enough to be given another chance. Or will he blow hot and cold like Dele.

Saints fans absolutely love KWP. I’m sure they would even take a straight swap with Pierre.

Should we be thinking of keeping KWP now he’s a had some decent PL experience? Has to be an upgrade on Aurier right? I think he’s even made a couple of assists for the Saints recently too.

I’d spend that £25 on Marcus E then tell foyth your job now is protecting the central defenders and getting the ball back. Start practicing. 🌚

Could we find someone better for £25m?the saints fan on here on Friday thought so and would have been happy with a swap for Kwp.If N’ Dombele gets sold is Soumare just as big a risk or the real deal?

He certainly won’t be plugging any dembs/eriksen holes. They can’t afford to let him go for free, can they? If he wants to come we’ll get him for a good price I reckon.

So if eriksen was sold for circa 17 million and these guys want 25 million. That means he is half as good again as eriksen. I know what you mean but when you look at it like this it makes sense to wait a while. Southampton have to sell this window and he only wants to play for us. Take our price or none.

He is nothing like Dembele or Eriksen for that matter and I am unconvinced that he will really improve our midfield noticeably.
