After a couple of years not touring during the summer months, Tottenham Hotspur will be heading out on the road to prepare for the 2022-23 season. The north London club will spend some time in South Korea growing their fan base in the Asian country.
In the club’s official announcement, chairman Daniel Levy stated his excitement to be out on the road preparing for the upcoming season. Furthermore, he added that a tour to career is long overdue for Tottenham.
“We are delighted to be heading back out on tour after what has been such a challenging time for us all,” Levy said. “Being able to take our team overseas during pre-season is always a key part of the preparation for any forthcoming season – I speak on behalf of all players and staff in saying we have missed being able to do so in recent years.
“A trip to Korea, in particular, is long overdue – we are well aware of the incredible support we have there, with many fans traveling to London to watch our matches in recent years.”
Tottenham is home to South Korea’s Men’s and Women’s national team captains, Son Heung-min and Cho So-hyun. Furthermore, the Premier League side is currently the country’s most-watched and best-supported overseas football club.
As a result, Son is more than excited to be heading to his home country and showing his Spurs teammates South Korea, as some will be visiting for the first time.
“I am extremely excited to be returning home to South Korea this summer alongside my Spurs teammates – for most of whom this will be their first visit. I can’t wait to see their reaction to the passionate Korean fans and the incredible atmosphere in what we are sure will be packed out stadiums for our matches,” Son said.
On the business side, Peter Chung, CEO of AIA Korea, is eager to welcome Tottenham, who will be visiting the country for the first time and play two exhibition matches in the Coupang Play Series.
“AIA Korea is delighted to welcome Tottenham Hotspur for their first visit to play games in Korea during our partnership, which began in 2013. This is a wonderful opportunity for our customers and partners to meet and watch the team live in Korea,” Chung said.
“This news comes hot on the heels of our recent announcement that Heung-Min Son is now an Ambassador for AIA Korea and brings further support to our belief that working with both Tottenham Hotspur and Heung-Min Son is a great way to encourage people in Korea to live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives. We will announce further details of our activation plans and customer promotions in due course.”
A trip to Korea simply means a week or longer away from much needed full squad preseason training in favour of attracting more Eastern fan money.
Yet another bright sign illuminating the true priorities of ENIC FC.
Even brighter considering the current state of the squad.
Sad.
“…brings further support to our belief that working with both Tottenham Hotspur and Heung-Min Son is a great way to encourage people in Korea to live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.”
Err.. What?.
Money…by Pink Floyd fir Levy
Money, get away
You get a good job with good pay and you’re okay
Money, it’s a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
A new car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I’ll buy me a football team
2nd.paragraph shouldn’t read “a trip to career is long overdue”.
Indeed, Levy is only focused on the bottom line as usual, already totting up shirt sales. But as others have pointed out, when Son leaves so do all those Korean fans.
Just another football thing Levy doesn’t seem to grasp.
Agree, as soon as Son leaves so will most of the South Korean fans, as they seem to be Sonny supporters rather Spurs supporters.
All about the £ … that’s it in a nutshell
Levy doing his best to grow our fan base in South Korea which will disappear within a heartbeat once Son decides enough is enough and leaves for somewhere better all whilst doing his utmost to alienate all us local fans who have had enough of his BS.
And how you can get foreigners to support Spurs over the Liverpools, Man Citys, Real Madrids who win things is beyond me
So all in all maybe a return to the 90s? How big were our attendances back then?
But hey its good for business right $$$.
“On the business side……………”
And there we have it.
Well I expect Kane to be nowhere near Korea.
