Credible Journalist makes Daniel Levy claim that is just so very depressing

By Bruce Grove -

Daniel Levy is the longest-serving chairman of any Premier League club, and he has developed a reputation for being one of the most cut-throat businessmen in football.

His take no prisoners approach has seen Tottenham miss out on signing some of their transfer targets as well as also selling some of their best players because he won’t meet their wage demands.

Spurs even embarrassingly furloughed some of their staff at the start of the coronavirus pandemic despite making good money in the last year, although the decision was later reversed.

Levy has helped the Lilywhites in many ways, but there are many Spurs’ fans who would like to see another individual take over his position at the club, but the latest opinion on his future won’t be good news to these set of fans.

Spurs journalist, Jack Pitt-Brooke spoke to The Athletic recently on the future of the club and claimed that even if the club is sold, chances are that Levy will still remain in his position.

He said: “There is plenty of interest. I think there certainly have been talks with interested parties”

“You hear a lot of talk about private equity investors or NFL owners. Clearly, nothing’s been done. I think the pandemic and recession means that a deal is less likely because there are now fewer buyers for assets that cost £2 billion, which I think is more or less the valuation for Tottenham, and also, even if there is a sale or an equity stake investment I expect Daniel Levy to continue at the club – he wants to stay as the CEO, even in the event of a sale to secure his legacy.

“So I don’t think Tottenham fans can expect Levy to head off anytime soon.”

Brooke is probably right in his assessment and it has to be said, that is very depressing.

Levy has made Spurs richer and he has delivered a spanking new Stadium but what he has not delivered is consistent success on the field of play.

Levy’s approach is the biggest handicap to Tottenham winning silverware, his constant changing of managers, bad transfer decisions and tightness with the purse strings have directly contributed to so many barren years.

That could happen next season if it’s anything like this season. Asking fans to pay top ticket prices demands Top players in my book not bargain basement shopping the whole time . Yes sometimes it turns out well but it’s always a gamble . We need proven quality players that you have to pay top dollar for. Bruno Fernandes being the perfect example sadly not his namesake Gedson . You get what you pay for in this world .🤦‍♂️

Much the same as ENIC really.

Mourinho should do better than that based on points he’s earned snce he joined. 65-70 point minimum, and we should definitely be top 4 contenders. I’m hoping top 4 and a cup.

Very true. Arsenal fans are devastated by what Kroenke is doing to them.

Yes he would have to change his tune considerably if that were the case. It all depends on the intentions of the new owners. I just hope we don’t get another Kroenke – now that would be an utter disaster.

They will only make their fortune when they sell up. Other than Lev’y wage, they make no money from Spurs as they never take a dividend of the profits. So I guess they must be interested in selling.

Let’s hope so. Levy can stay under new owners if the owners want to be ambitious on the pitch then he will have to follow suit surely?

The fans want trophies and League titles not bottom filling pints and cheese.

When you look at that lot down the road and how they’ve declined on the pitch since they moved into their new place, anyone regarding the stadium as forward progress is deluded in the extreme. The evidence just doesn’t stack up.

The stadium means the owners make more money in the long term, it’s got nothing to do with the football team being better. It should be, but the reality is that it is most certainly not…

It entirely depends on whoever bought us out. Most bring their own people in. Also it would depend on their motivation and ambition.. People like Fenway aim to win.. Or would it be people like Lewis Levy and Enic, their main motive and priority to make money….. I cannot see Lewis or Levy selling up. It has nothing to do with ‘legacy’.. It obviously makes them alot of money.

With Levy in charge, your pessimism is well placed.

He has had a brilliant season with 14 goals & 8 assists,Brentford’s Olie Watkins also 25 goals & 3 assists. They might get up if they win the play offs. Both players are English and played in all 46 games. We could do a lot worse and they are young with resale value that Levy would like.

Ok so at the risk of sounding upbeat, the bit I liked about this article was the bit that read “There is plenty of interest. I think there certainly have been talks with interested parties”.

If ENIC are considering selling, and there are interested parties, then this is surely joyful news, no?

I think any new owner with any sense would sack him on the spot. The vast majority of owners want success for their football club first and foremost. This little weasel is a physical barrier to success. It’s pretty well known in footballing circles these days just how unpopular with the fans this man is because of his purely mercenary approach to money, and the fact that he is conning the fans with the pretence of us being a big club whilst taxing them dry. A new owner wouldn’t want to continue that if he had any sense, because eventually official protests will be mounted and Spurs fans (those with brains at least) would boycott the club and stop it making money. I think the way things are going one day it will come to that. Eventually the penny will begin to drop even amongst the most sheep like Spurs fans.

Haha of course he does. He could show the new owners the Trophy Cabinet and photos of the open top bus parade of each year’s Balance Sheet.
It may be partly wishful thinking Jack but I really believe any big money man/org. would kick him to touch.

I back this up with:
1. If they want to be the new Citeh/Pool etc they will bring in a much better man (not difficult)
2. If they want to continue as a business they will bring in a much better man (he is a small time opportunist)

Don’t worry Jack Pitt Brooke’s expectations would be unlikely to influence any hard nosed oligarch who buys out enic. The chances of them becoming misty eyed at the thought of levy securing “his legacy” would be below zero. Sadly that’s probably also what I rate the chances of someone giving the grifters 2 billion to go away.

I am sure that Levy would like to stay if the club is sold. after all, he is the highest paid chairman in the PL, but who on earth would buy Spurs for the club to continue in the same vein? Any buyer would do due diligence and if you analyse Levy’s track record in football matters, it is appalling. If I were a buyer, I would insist that I would employ my own team from top to bottom which is what the club needs. I don’t Lewis is going to turn down a huge offer at his age and he is the controlling shareholder. I agree with the post below, Levy staying would be a deal breaker for anyone who wanted football success in the future.

Call me a cheery old soul but unless something dramatically happens close season sadly I am already resigned to mid table mediocrity or languishing in the nether regions next season and yet another trophyless season. Thats the bad news. The good news is?????

The whole point in buying Spurs should be to focus on the football (which in itself makes money) now the property is built, why on earth would they keep Levy on board, thats a deal breaker….

Another missed opportunity coming up, Guardian reporting that West Ham are looking to sign QPRs Eberechi Eze, I think we will come to regret it if we don’t make a move.
