Covid-19 All Clear At Tottenham After Norwich Scare

Tottenham have released a statement to appease fearful fans following the news that a Norwich City player had tested positive for Covid-19.

Spurs hosted the Canaries in a friendly on Friday in preparation for the resumption of the season next week, and the Norwich player in question, one of two positive cases out of 1,200 in the latest round of Premier League testing, did feature in our 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

We have already had one Coronavirus case at Spurs when an unnamed player, although not thought to be a key member of the first team according to The Guardian, had his own positive test in the opening week of June. The player, thankfully showing no symptoms, and those who had been working with him in the small group training sessions had to self-isolate for a week.

To everyone’s relief, we have avoided a second scare with the club confirming that the squad are in the clear.

A Spurs statement, relayed by the London Evening Standard, read: “We continue to operate within the strict guidelines outlined by the Premier League to ensure we avoid any risk of infection spreading should anyone else test positive, including practising social distancing so no ‘close contacts’ are created, which has been defined by Government as being within two metres of a confirmed case for 15 minutes or more.

“This means that no other member of the squad or staff should be forced to self-isolate other than the person who returns a positive test result and their household members.

“The Norwich player in question has confirmed he had no ‘close contacts’ with our team yesterday and our squad has also verified this.

“Our testing has continued to return only negative results for Covid since one positive reading was confirmed almost two weeks ago.”
