“…conversations with Tottenham” – Fabrizio Romano drops the latest update on Tottenham’s interest in 51-year-old

Speculation continues to mount over a potential return of Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur, following the sacking of Antonio Conte.

The search for a new long-term manager is underway, with Pochettino and Luis Enrique the two names most frequently mentioned in connection with the role.

Despite previous reports that Daniel Levy, the club’s chairman, was keen on bringing Pochettino back, recent reports suggest that he may have had a change of heart.

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that as far as he knows, Pochettino has not yet had any conversations with Tottenham or Chelsea. However, he noted that Pochettino is believed to be on the list of potential managers being considered by Real Madrid.

In his daily briefing column for Caughtoffside (subscription required) , Romano wrote:

“As far as I’m aware, Mauricio Pochettino has had no conversations with Tottenham (or Chelsea) – yet. I’m also not aware of any rumours that he’s said no to Spurs, but keep an eye on the Real Madrid situation as he is, for sure, one name on their list.”

It is understood that Pochettino may be holding out for an offer from Real Madrid, who could be looking for a new manager if Carlo Ancelotti leaves the club at the end of the season.

In the meantime, Tottenham have appointed Cristian Stellini as interim boss for the remainder of the season, with Ryan Mason as his assistant. The duo’s first game in charge was a 1-1 draw against Everton.

It is unclear whether Pochettino will return to Tottenham if approached or whether he will hold out for an offer from Real Madrid.

With Ancelotti’s future uncertain, and the possibility of the Italian leaving the Spanish club, Pochettino could be a likely candidate for the job.

However, for now, it seems that Tottenham will have to wait and see what the future holds for their former manager.
