Conte admits being ‘worried’ about one particular ‘problem’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Antonio Conte spoke to the media before Tottenham’s match against Arsenal earlier today, revealing that Spurs are “worried” about Lucas Moura.

The north Londoners are concerned about the £80,000-a-week man because he has not recovered from his injury as expected. The Brazil international has not played since the 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge due to a calf injury, which Conte says is still bothering him.

While speaking to BT Sport (via HITC), the Italian said:

“We are worried about Lucas because he is not recovering the problem he has.”

Lucas has now missed the last five Premier League matchday squads, despite the fact that the international break, as well as recent postponements, have given him some extra time to focus on his recovery. He has been speaking to the media about rumours linking him with a Spurs exit and in a recent interview has flirted with the idea of joining Sevilla.

The 30-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2024, so if Spurs do not sell him in 2023, they may lose him for nothing. Knowing Daniel Levy, he would almost certainly prefer to receive a fee for Lucas rather than allow him to leave for free in 2024.

If it was a coach of little repute managing Spurs I wonder how much stick they would get for that tactical disaster class..2 in midfield against a footballing side is was and will always be a complete nonsense..do we do all our training on the 18 yard line ..that Saliba could contain our feeble counters says a lot about him but more about us..no final ball.
I ll call it I thought we were garbage.

We are paying 15 million a year for these genius ‘tactics’ of everyone behind the ball and watch the opposition play.

Moura is no problem at all, get rid in January and clear a spot for a new creative attacker (forward or mid, doesn’t matter) and also ditch Royal and get in a proven right wing back. Offload Spence on loan to cheer up Conte.

You can’t beat a bit of post WC spending, sure some players will show quality in these positions and be attainable.

There is no other team playing this turgid, defensive style of football. I feel for the people who’ve paid good money on season tickets and travelling supporters to have to put up with this rubbish.

I think Conte folded, and thought why not just rest a few for the games next week.

No pressure on the ball, giving them acres of space to play the ball and run into, never getting close to them. We must be the only team playing this style of football. Might work against teams outside the top six but the top six won’t be worried by it.

One unsaveable worldie from outside the box (typical), one calamitous goalkeeping error (double typical) and a moment of clumsiness from a much-maligned RB leaving the rest of the team in the lurch (this is uncanny!)

None of those incidents are particularly worrying when taken in isolation, mistakes happen and all teams throw the odd one in, but the total lack of control that Spurs had for the majority of that match shows that the game plan of sitting back and taking your rare opportunities to score, only works against the best teams when every player puts in a near-perfect performance.

This tactic is ugly to watch and must be even worse to put into practice by those players who aren’t good enough, but we’re clearly better than we were under Nuno, Jose and Poch’s last season (not that any of that is a good benchmark to use when aiming for silverware). We could’ve nicked a draw on another day, but much like Chelsea away we certainly would not have deserved it.

Not a great way to start the 34 games in 6 weeks or whatever the ridiculous schedule is at the moment, I’d bite your arm off for a draw in our next two games away at Frankfurt and Brighton, followed by two should-win home fixtures against Frank and then Fwank.

Levy’s not fussed, he’s got the big day tomorrow as the real purpose begins. Lots of foam fingers and sh%t.

The football is atrocious and dont give me that we used to play well and never win anything nonsense . Have a go,keep the ball be aggressive to get the ball back. Should have gone 3 5 2 today and tried to dictate the play . I’m sick of this set up, we get outplayed by everyone even when we win.

Still big holes in this squad. Hence the two more windows remark.

Are we underachieving or overachieving, I don’t know. Something is not right.

Still well placed but another defeat to a top six rival might not help the team’s confidence.

Hard to square that performance with our home game against them.

Can’t fault him for trying for a big fee, bit like the £1 million offer for Jude Bellingham.

Great if it comes off.

Exactly. Why consolidate a defeat, you get no points for it. At least ave a go. Whats the point of having gil and spence on bench just sat there. Yes we may not have won but prefer to lose 4 or 5 and have a go you never know.

Our last three managers, and I will ignore Nuno because he was only here for a matter of hours, have all ended up using the same tactics.

Poch arrived and got a group of young hungry players into a formidable team who were easy on the eye, scored goals and were feared by most teams in the PL and were unbeaten at home in their last season at home at WHL.But he wasn’t backed by the owners, including for a period of over 500 days without any incoming players,so he became a prgmatist. With no churn the squad got stale and complacency set in,leading to some awful performances during his last 18 months.

jose Mourinho arrived as a serial winner who had never failed to win silverware wherever he went.He was seen as a marquee signing, but he too wasn’t backed in the transfer market and with no new players to make a difference he too became a pragmatist and set his teams up not to lose. The result being an unpalatable watch for most games. Then he too was sacked on the eve of a cup final,to save on a bonus should he have won the cup.

There was then an interminable delay delay before Nuno was signed up,but he was dispatched in rapid time.

Then we come to Conte. He too is a serial winner at countless clubs, where he has always been able to get the players he wants. But it was soon apparent that he wasn’t to be backed as he saw fit to achieve the success he was looking for.So we see yet again a pragmatic approach by the manager who decides to set his team up not to lose and presents fans generally with performances which are painful to watch at best.He would appear not to have a plan B nor trust half the players at his disposal. He will go in the summer.

What we have seen over this last, nearly 10 year period, and it does go back much further than that,is that the owners have no interest in the team or of winning trophies.Their dealings are always governed by the spreadsheet, and until such time as they ride off into the sunset,we will continue to win nothing.Amen.

Knowing Levy he will ask for twice what Moura is worth in the final year of his contract, and he will end up leaving for nothing. This is what Levy does and he never learns his lesson.
