Club board member travels to England to hold talks with 29-yr-old ahead of a potential January move

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham defender Eric Dier has emerged as a potential transfer target for AS Roma in the upcoming January window but there are other clubs eying a move for him as well.

Jose Mourinho reportedly expressed a specific desire to reunite with Dier, whom he coached during his time at Spurs.

They also tried to sign him in the summer and the Italian club even contacted Spurs but found his asking price too high for a player who’d be available on a free in the summer.

And while Roma are said to be still interested in signing him, they face competition from Turkish side Fenerbahce.

According to Turkish outlet Takvim, the club has already taken steps to try and sign him.

As per the report, Fenerbahce board member Selahattin Baki has travelled to London to hold talks with the 29-year-old.

The report adds that Fenerbahce intend to secure his signing next month for a ‘reasonable fee’, however, it does not mention any figures.

Dier has fallen out of favour at the club having failed to impress Ange Postecoglou. He has only made two appearances this season, one as a substitute against Chelsea and one start against Wolves.

Levy is reportedly willing to sell him in January in order to cash in on him instead of letting him leave for free.

The player is said to prefer a free transfer in the summer but could be open to a January exit for the right club.

Ange has made it clear that he wants a new centre-back in January but in case Spurs fail to sign one, Dier could end up staying.
