Mourinho has ‘specifically requested’ Roma to raid Spurs for their versatile ace

Tottenham defender Eric Dier has emerged as a potential transfer target for AS Roma in the upcoming January window, according to reports from RomaGiallorossa.

Jose Mourinho, the former Spurs manager now at Roma, has reportedly expressed a specific desire to reunite with Dier, whom he coached during his time at N17.

Mourinho, seeking to bolster his defensive options, has ‘specifically requested’ Roma to secure the signing of the versatile England ace who can play in defense as well as in midfield.

As per the report, Roma director Pinto is inclined towards signing Chelsea defenders Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr, but Mourinho favors the 29-year-old as his ideal signing for the club.

The potential move may have implications for Chelsea as well. Report claims that Chelsea had been exploring a swap deal involving Sarr and Chalobah for Roma’s Tammy Abraham, but Mourinho’s preference towards Dier could disrupt any potential move.

The report further claims that Roma tried to sign Eric Dier in the summer but could not agree on a deal with Spurs who were asking too much money for a player whose contact was ending in a year.

However, fresh reports indicate a revived interest from Roma in a deal that could be struck for a fee ranging between €4-5 million which the London club would consider a decent gain as opposed to losing him for free in the summer.

While it was said that Dier would rather stay at Spurs until the end of the season and leave on a free, a chance to reunite with Mourinho may sway his decision.
