Bryan Gil discusses departing Spurs and joining Valencia on a loan deal

Over the summer, Tottenham Hotspur sent a transfer fee and Érik Lamela to Sevilla for winger Bryan Gil. The 20-year-old is one of the more talented young Spanish players, which is why Spurs jumped at the chance to land him.

However, Gil didn’t see much significant playing time with the north London club this season. Despite making 20 appearances, he averaged 11 minutes per game in Premier League competition. As a result, Spurs decided to loan out the player during the January transfer window deadline day.

Gil will spend the remainder of the season on loan to Valencia, hoping that the young winger sees significant playing time. The Spurs winger is now in Spain, and he’s happy to be back in his home country, as Sky Sports relayed his remarks.

“It is a special day for me. I wanted to be here. My family is also very happy,” Gil said. “They wanted me to return to Spain, and now it’s time to enjoy the team and the city.”

There are no options to make the forward’s stay a permanent one, which says that Tottenham has him in their plans heading into the future.

Spanish players didn’t use to go abroad until they were 25 or 26. Now because Spanish football is in so much trouble financially you see these young guys, totally unprepared for the Premier League.

Simply was not ready to come here either mentally or physically, so begs the question why we bothered, and there has to be doubts six months away will change anything.

I like Gil, he has good technique/skill. Making an instant impact at Valencia, good on him considering he’s barely had time to train. I’ll be keeping a beady eye on him.

Really hoping he returns in the summer, needs bulking up.

If Conte walks at some point, the chaos will return!

My gut feeling on this is that he won’t return to England but instead make the loan permanent eventually, and Levy will make a profit.

Good for him but I can’t believe that sending him back to Spain is better for his development than loaning to a footballing Championship side or low-mid table Premier League side. He needs English football minutes.

Glad we’re keeping the lad. Hopefully he’ll get game time there he needs to be playing.. Would have liked him to go on loan to a prem club like Norwich or Burnley ideally.
