Gareth Bale’s second Tottenham stint hasn’t gone to plan and could leave him with a problem with regards to playing football next season.
The Welshman returned on loan to Spurs from Real Madrid in the summer, and the Spanish side was positive that he would return to form and earn a longer stay in North London.
However, he is now set to return to Madrid, having failed to show good form at Spurs.
That could see him play no football next season because he would return to Madrid as a non-EU player following Britain’s exit from the European block, Marca reports.
This means that Los Blancos will have to find a space for him in their squad, and La Liga sides are allowed just three non-EU players.
The report says Bale will now have to compete with Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, Eder Militao, Reinier Jesus and Takefusa Kubo for the three spots.
The attacker is one player that refused to take a pay cut when the coronavirus pandemic forced a plea from the club, and he is also unwilling to settle for less than his 34 million euros per season salary for the final year of his contract.
If he doesn’t earn a stay at Spurs and Madrid cannot ship him to another team, he could face being axed from their registered 25-man squad for next season.

It’s over
No harm to Gareth but I’d be surprised if an MLS team decided to give him another huge contract after what he’s shown so far.
I hope he can get things going but it seems unlikely.
Bale knows what his posistion is at Madrid, and the fact he will be back there come the summer. He can’t be naive to think we will extend his stay with us.And if he does or does not play or is axed from the Real squad,he still pulls his 650K/week salary.
It’s a win/win situation for him and more time for golf.My feeling is,having cleaned up financially he will look to finish playing in the MSL,particularly as he won’t have to learn the language.
