Talk of Daniel Levy aiming to sell, selling shares, or finally just plain old cashing in and waving goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur football club has been doing the rounds for some considerable time.
It is fair to note that 99% of these conversations have revolved around the possibility of someone in the Middle East being involved. There have been innumerable guesses at what class of monies would be involved.
This speculation could well be about to be drawn to a close.
The Boy Hotspur understands that a deal is now very close to an overseas entity and that we could be shot of ENIC as soon as this summer.
The talks are not being held with a party from the Middle East.
Also, to be clear, at this stage, this is a sell-up and walk-away deal that has been mooted.
Certainly, this would add some desperately needed context to Ange Postecoglou still being at the club, beyond the ‘we might win the Europa League’ theory, which, quite frankly, doesn’t stand up to much scrutiny at all.
Undoubtedly, the club has achieved wonders off the pitch, but the inadequacies of the actual football team have begun to spiral out of control. This season has been nothing short of a car crash.
Many fans are furious with the state of things, as evidenced by the unprecedented support given to the Change For Tottenham movement, which has achieved the unthinkable and brought order and purpose to a genuinely deep undercurrent of discontent in the fan base.
The idea that a serious club the size of Spurs would have every single social media post degenerate in seconds to feral abuse, and be routinely ridiculed by bookmakers is bewildering to witness.
That said, it’s quite deserved, if we’re honest with ourselves.
