Trying to get a gauge of a particular game, or a measure of individual performances within one, just MINUTES after the full time whistle is a fools’ errand. Of course, we all have gut instincts and opinions, but steam being let off by anonymous punters online is almost invariably not the best place to get balanced judgements.
Looking at ThisIsFutbol‘s hysterical headline this evening made wonder what I had missed that would generate such bile. A cursory glance at Serge Aurier’s crossing confirmed he couldn’t cross for toffee, and that his passing wasn’t the best. Yet the Ivorian’s passing has been markedly worse in the past!
Perhaps when ‘writers’ are seeking to construct pieces, it might be better for their readers to be provided with context and thought through analysis, opposed to merely hijacking a handful of rants in order to push thoughts that don’t really add to the quality of the debate. Is that unreasonable?

All i see are players flopping to draw free kicks, they need to be booked for assimilation. Saha is a driver and whiner.
The way the media talk you would think we had the easier game & Liverpool had the harder game.
But anyway, there are many millions of fans out there so scared that we may be able to win this… so they can keep being scared coz this is going to the wire.
If we get to Jan in this position, game on.
We have a very tough run, buy normally do well in this period, can’t see how we’re gonna manage Son & Kane over next 2 games after they played a majority of yesterday’s tough away game.
I would say that was tougher than Chelsea game
Looking forward to seeing Vinícius & Bale play Stoke though.
Aurier has improved so much, having a bad crossing day is not a reason to use him as a scapegoat for the loss, that is out of order,
When he’s making penalty giveaways in our box fans can pile on him, not for this.
Crosses in the box were never gonna beat Palace just as Arsenal found out against us.
Palace was always gonna be a very difficult game, maybe even more so for our team that Wednesday night will be.
I’m ok with a draw, we all know we would easily have lost that game under Poch 2-1 or 3-1
I personally think we played well considering our recent run & their fans helping them with their new founder confindence.
We will cause Liverpool problems in Wed & then this will be a distant memory.
Can’t win them all, Palace are playing great stuff & their goalie had the best performance of him life.
The guys in the studio haven’t got a clue how difficult it is to save a swerving ball at pace to criticise.
I am concerned Jose’s go to tactic is just to park the bus. Today was a disgrace.
#KeepItTottenham
We may be upset but not as much as Liverpool FC will be.
A bad moment happens. Bet those critics are awful to work with.
Still top after dropping points.
Surely Jose must see its a good time to play Liverpool and go for the 3 points. More injuries now with Jota and Matip out-making that 3 centre backs missing. Kane/Son and ‘one other’ have to be let loose and with the return fixture only at the end of Jan, 6 points from them this season is a real possibility! COYS
Overreacting is the default behavior on the wonderful platform known as social media…
If he’s got at he can almost certainly struggle defensively but credit to him he has upped his game of late. Today was another one of those games where the opposition were able to expose him. When that happens generally he struggles.
Yup.
Please do not do comments from twitter Harry. Most fans are not on it. Leave it to the Spurs Web site with their usual “some fans” headline. Still happy with season so far,,,coys
Have to agree, these individual player ‘career assassinations’ after every game are nonsense.
We gave away far too many free kicks second half – there was a patch of about 15 minutes it was getting amateurish. I said to my other half ‘this time we’re being made to look like the suckers, Jose style’ and in a way they served us a bit of our own medicine.
Aurier was one of the guilty parties giving away needless free kicks but not the only one.
He had an ok first half, but it could have been so much more and he was outshone by Reggie – he had so much time on the ball and so many opportunities to put in a final ball. He didn’t really take advantage.
For his previous two games you have to still say he’s having a great season but there are some players in this side where when the overall standard of our play slips they can’t fight against it and they revert to poor form. He’s one. Hojbjerg is the most obvious exception.
