Antonio Conte states Tottenham faces an “impossible” challenge for a top-four spot

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur has lost twice this past week against clubs they were above in the Premier League standings and at home. Spurs dropped points to Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and their hopes to finish in the top four are taking a hit.

Spurs are now in ninth place and sit in eighth place, five points away from West Ham United. The north London club also has Manchester United, Arsenal, and Wolves ahead of them in the standings.

As a result, manager Antonio Conte put a dose of reality during his press conference. Conte states that the Premier League club faces an “impossible” challenge of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season.

“When you lose two games at home and against Chelsea, for a team that wants to qualify for the Champions League, it’s impossible to happen,” Conte said to Sky Sports (via ESPN).

“We know we have to fight to build something important with the situation, but it’s important to know the situation. Maybe our fans shouldn’t be disappointed with the defeat; instead, they should try and push us and stay behind us.”

Since his arrival, Conte has turned the season around, and Tottenham made a couple of additions to their squad. Nonetheless, it still hasn’t been enough for Tottenham to get into the top four. Unless those clubs ahead of them begin to falter, Spurs could miss out on another season without Champions League football.

Exactly. He left a winning Inter side because of funds. We are barely a mid table club with apparently no funds. Only one way this will go.

To be honest I was not that excited when conte was chosen as manager, great manager but he has to have big buck’s to buy decent players and knowing levy that’s just not gonna happen. I would be extremely surprised if he is still at spurs next season. He left a great inter team because they told him they do not have extra money for this season….and as I said he already a great inter team.

We won’t buy players unless we sell that has always been levys strategy, just Google net spent these last ten years and spurs are down there with Norwich. If…and that’s a big IF dele and ndombele start playing some great football and Everton/lyon decide to buy them…then yes we shall have “some” money to spend this summer, if not usual basement bargains.

Said quietly…Name your players and we’ll go get you a version of them. A Wembley market job.

Reading that Joe Rodon has played with broken ribs and other injuries which shows just how much he wants to play but also the risks our medical team are willing to allow, incredible if true.

Very surprised he went for Sess and Doherty even though Reg and Royal have been poor, the system is not working , I can’t make up my mind if it’s these players are not suited or they just can’t play together, which looks the obvious one.

After the FA Cup game I looked at the table and we were favourites for 4th (I dont rate W Ham) but now the favourites are Goon FC without a doubt and yes things can change but as we stand thats it.

While the buck stops with Levy, Conte isnt without fault. I can understand him trying to get the players to understand the new formation. I can also understand needing time to see the players he has got and to coach them etc.

But:
3-4-3 isnt working, will never. You have 2 midfield players (in our case very mediocre) in the middle of the park against most of the time 3 players. Teams are running right through our middle with no resistance at all. The WBs are not offering anything meaning we just lump it upfield and the front 3 are chasing shadows for 90 mins. We end up playing like an away side against Man City when we are at home against mid table sides….

I feel that we are in a lose lose situation. We end up 4th: Levy deems that this squad is good enough. We end up outside top 4: Conte & Paratici leave. It just has that inevitable feeling

I am! Too many average, gutless players. We have no hope of top 4. I won’t even watch Saturday’s game against Man City, it could be a horror show.

Well that’s kind of the point isn’t it, the rest of the pack WILL falter, because they too are not Man City, Liverpool or Chelsea.

I’m not giving up hope just yet, I mean if we’re not within 3-4 points with 5 games to go I might have a rethink on that, but it’s way too early to rule us out yet.

Get on a decent run of 12-15 points from 4-5 games and it’ll look rosy again.

Granted, I can’t see that starting Saturday though!

Wonder what Conte was told about January transfers before he took the job.

The Mail have Conte admitting he may have made a mistake not picking Rodon by now.No sh*t Sherlock.

There is no way he could be worse than Sanchez, who has to get rid of that annoying modern habit of facing up to an opponent with his arms behind his back.I would understand and could forgive a defender giving away a penalty if he make a proper challenge

He’s very good at stating the bleeding obvious. Any right minded Spurs fan could’ve told him that before he took the job.

It was a VERY poor transfer window that cost us yet again. We have an even smaller squad than we had before January and it was lacking then. If it wasn’t so sad it would be laughable. However, I am willing to write off the rest of the season providing a) we buy players in the summer, but not JUST players, they have to be good players and B) We don’t finish 7th and into that ridiculous mickey mouse league again!
